gender specific dress

posted 23rd Nov
Do you dress your kids up in gender specific ways, or let them have a choice in that?

It's her choice. She has several "boy" tshirts, pjs, and toys

When I grew up my mom was the same way. But she said she had a LOT of people make comments about how we would not be dressed girly or like little boys. Drove my mom batty lol.

For a girl, it's normal to wear boy clothes   I think every little girl goes through that phase. I sure did! But for boys, I'd correct that early on and tell him pink is ugly so he get's that into his head. Im not against gays AT ALL but if he gets in the habit of wearing girls clothes I'd rather him make that decision in his teens. Just my opinion, no one flame me ;)

I don't see the harm in letting a boy wear pink. It's just a color, just like blue or green or yellow. Anywho, DD has clothes that apparently are boyish since everyone thinks she's a boy when she wears them. I still think they're adorable and I know she's a girl so no skin off my back. I do put her in A LOT of pink and dresses though. Anything frilly and girly is my thing for her lol.

My boys wear whatever they want, play with whatever they want, have their hair how they want.

My middle son has super long hair, likes barbies and stuff like that. Whatever. It's who he is. It doesn't need to be "corrected".

What's the difference if a girl does it though?

I guess DD is still kind of young to make choices like that, but if she wants to wear 'boyish' things, I'll let her. She has tons of toy cars and other things that mainly little boys would play with and I don't see an issue with it at all. .

I would let my son wear whatever he wanted. He's never asked to wear girl clothes but I wouldn't care if he did. So far all he's ever specifically asked to wear is Jordans and hats lol.

I'll let DD wear whatever she wants. If she's going to do something I think she'll regret, I'll try to let her know, but won't stop her(as long as it isn't permanent.) I hope she's girly, because I think it's fun, but if she isn't I won't punish her for it or try to change her.

Pink is an ugly colour on both boys, and girls. And... Boys wearing pink =/= gay.

It's not uncommon sadly. Little girls playing with boys toys or dressed as them is considered cute. But if your little boy wants to wear pink, a skirt of play with a cupcake kid god forbid he might go gay

Nope. My son wears pink, my daughter wears blue. They wear other colors too. it just isn't a big deal to me. They're just colors. My daughter wears pants and skirts. My son is only 6 weeks so I only put him in sleepers and onesies atm. If he wants to wear dresses then he can go for it.

I don't care if my DS plays with his sister's toys. And he has even put on one of her dress up dresses once or twice. But I would not dress him in a dress or skirt, anything really frilly or lacey. However he does have a light pink dress shirt that looks adorable with a black tie with white skulls.
