Would you call CPS? (poll)
posted 23rd Nov
Say a woman you knew was living in a motel room (also living off of welfare with no real job) had 3 children living with her as well. Then she also had two other women and their children in the motel room as well with at least 2 men. The kids are dirty, and are always running around outside even late at night.
Would you call CPS? Would you talk to her about it or what?

call CPS!!!!!!!!!!!

you can, but it's still a roof over their heads. i lived in a motel with my mom for awhile, my dad tried to get custody using that he had a home and she didn't, but it was dismissed.
eta: are they all in one room???? nevermind! lol

Haha. Yes. I think state law allows 3 people in a "single" apartment so that is entirely too many. And the random men there would freak me out.

It depends. If they are an extended family living like that because of a difficult financial situation, and the children are loved, fed, and no being mistreated, I would not call.
ETA: honestly, unless I know for a FACT what the details of situation are (like that they are not extended family and just ransoms staying over every night) and that those kids are unsafe and not being taken care of, I would not call. My kids get dirty playing outside every single day and we have friends over our house a lot, if it's late and they are tired, they can stay over. We're still good parents and our kids are well loved and taken care of.

A lot of people live in hotels and motels.
Also just because she is living off welfar doesn't make her a bad mom. She could probably qualify as a mooch but I don't know her situation.
Are the kids dirty? With like dirt and stuff? Because my kids get dirty playing. As long as they do not smell and look like they bathe I wouldn't worry about it.
I have people come stay at my house that doesn't make me a bad mom.

I've been debating it. The woman has her kids, her friends, her friends kids, AND men coming and going. I feel bad for the children involved.

A mom and a kid or two in a motel room... not a big deal. Add a couple more adults and other kids and IMO... that's an issue.

Yes it's one room like a studio apartment, but a motel.
quoteposted 23rd Nov
Explain that you know times are tough for her and that she's probably doing the best she can but that it doesn't seem like the best environment for her kids when she has so many others living with them. Maybe research some alternatives in your area like women's shelters or programs that offer help to families on welfare?

If they are crashing for a night I do not see a problem. If it is a regular thing then it's an issue.

I would call not because of the hotel room, but dirty kids running around

The way I'm understanding it, is that its a regular thing. It just sounds fishy and a completely unhealthy home environment.
