Previa and water breaking

posted 23rd Nov
Has anyone had placenta previa, whether it be complete, partialor marginal or even a low lying placenta and have their water break? Did you bleed when it broke? Did the previa cause your water to break?

What kind of previa was it for the 2nd or was it just a low lying placenta?

ugh my last pregnancy I wasnt allowed sex from 20ish weeks until like 41 lol
it was awful, and I only had marginal! however it was a good thing because I had vasa previa that went undiagnosed until I gave birth.
good luck with your ultrasound I hope everything looks good for you this time!

omgosh are you serious? I asked my specialist last week if I have vasa previa and she told me no but I am still scared. I have been such a worry worm this pregnancy!

My previa wasn't diagnosed at 20 weeks but at 29 weeks my water ruptured, I was contracting every 3 min and dilated to a 3 from 0 during the exam at which point I started bleeding profusely and they quickly diagnosed the partial previa. The previa doesn't cause the water to break and you don't bleed from your water breaking, you bleed from dialtion, as the cervix dilates the placenta pulls away from the cervix/uterus and you bleed since it's a site that is being actively used. Even bleeding doesn't need emergency action. After mine started bleeding they were still going to give me another 2 hours to see if the contractions would calm down, if they did then great, they would wait to see if the bleeding stopped and the water could seal back up, if it didn't they would then fly me to the nearest Children's hospital, so that would still have taken transport time of about 2 hours and then getting prepped for surgery, so they would have been willing to wait at least 4 hours from the initial time of bleed before acting.

Oh wow, that really calms my nerves! I can't remember if I said this but with no traffic my hospital is about 40-45 mins away. Did you end up delivering?

they'd have to do a transvaginal ultrasound with color doppler to be sure of it.
its pretty rare, 1 in 2500.. but so worth checking for. placenta previa is one of the risk factors for it.

we got really lucky, mine ruptured at home and that should have been a death sentence but her head dropped and compressed the vessel so she didn't bleed out. the lack of oxygen from it being compressed caused brain damage but she is here and thats much better than the alternative.
I try to tell everyone with placenta previa to ask their doctor about it. its so scary.

No I didn't, my contractions slowed and eventually stopped and because my son engaged at the same time that my water ruptured, he kinda plugged the rupture and slowed the leak long enough for it to reseal and the water to rebuild so that with 10 weeks of antibiotics and strict bedrest I didn't have him until 3 days before my due date.

I have a transvaginal ultrasound every 2 weeks and I know she has done the color doppler on it. The last time she did a color doppler was at my anatomy scan. Omgosh, well what a blessing she is here! Yeah, I know it is really rare and I've heard of it a few times. She said no I don't have it and if I did or they suspected it they would hospitalize me around 32 weeks.

Omgosh that is crazy! I didn't know a full rupture could seal or was it just a leak?

they weren't sure to what extend it was ruptured, there was quite a gush at the beginning and then it slowed to a trickle. So they aren't sure if it was a leak that had initially pooled, gushed, and then gone to the normal trickle or if it was a full rupture that was sealed due to the compression of my son's head against the pelvic cavity as he engaged and then consequently slowed to a trickle, either way they were happy it was slowing and unfortunately couldn't know for sure since with a previa they couldn't so another exam.

thats so great that they actually checked for it and are keeping such a close eye on you.
I had 7 ultrasounds through my pregnancy to check the placenta previa and they never bothered to look for VP
