Popping ribs

posted 23rd Nov
I'm not sure this necessarily relates to pregnancy but I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen -
I'm 18 weeks pregnant and last night it felt like two ribs on my right side were rubbing up against each other. I would lean and then straighten out and I'd feel my bottom rib "pop." Of course I know this isn't the baby as he/she is not nearly high enough for that, just wondering if anyone else had it.
It was one of the most uncomfortable things. Thanks

i've had it happen. with being pregnant and without....but it was worse during pregnancy. your ribs 'know' they gotta move soon so i guess they're just trying to get a head start..haha.

it is very uncomfortable...especially the feeling of them rubbing together.

I've never had it before so I had no idea what was going on. haha. But yeah, I don't mind feeling them move it's just the rubbing together. Sooo weird.

I've had the hyperflexibility thing since I was a kid, in my knees and my ribs. And around that time my left lower ribs started doing this. Prepare yourself it gets worse, I'm 28 weeks and at my last weeks apt. She had already dropped and dislocated a rib. My OB say's she wont be surprised if I come in next month with a broken rib. The only time it really bothers me is walking for more than ten minutes, slouching, or laying on my left side :/ and of course when she kicks there.

It sucks just stretch a lot, and try and force yourself to keep a good posture. It'll help a little. Not much you can do while pregnant. sorry I know it sucks.

Thanks for the reply though, it does help to know what could happen. Let's just hope that it doesn't. :/

Is it possible that this happens with your hips too? I've always had mine kind of popping around, even before I was pregnant and of course it's been happening even more lately. I suppose I'll probably talk to my midwife or doctor about it.

oh god yes.

my hips and pelvis used to pop every morning...and pop out of place often. it would hurt to point of crying. dr said there was nothing he could do about it. my hips have always been easily popped in and out of place and i was seriously worried about having my legs up in stirrups for deliver because even sex like that (tmi) makes my hips go out of place. i had a c section though so i never got to know if that would happen.

Yeah, I'm the same way with sex. lol Even being on top would start to hurt because my legs would be spread out so wide (yes, tmi, sorry lol). So for that reason I am definitely worried about giving birth, but I guess I'll tackle that when I get closer to my due date. It's good to know other people are experiencing that - I just had no idea it could happen with my ribs, too!

yep! i feel your pain.
yeah i would just tell them...when it gets closer to that time...that you worry about your hips when giving birth. it would be best for them to know so that they're not understanding why you don't want your legs in some positions.

I agree. lol I'm trying to work on my birthing plan so I really have time to think things through on it but I'm also thinking water birth right now because maybe that would help, idk. I'm sure I'll have it all figured out by then and I'm sure the hospital will be understanding and probably help me plan what will be the most comfortable.
