We drove up to my Nanas to spend the week with her for Thanksgiving and it was her 85th birthday ( she had my Dad really late). They got her a big TV and we pulled out videos from twenty years ago. I watched my PoPo tease my lil 1.5 year old self and joke around with my brother and cousins...Then all four of us kids climbed up in his lap on his old recliner ...some other cousins sat by each side of the recliner and he read the Christmas story to us....just like he did every year through our last Christmas with him when I was 7. He was such a humble and genuinely good man that loved all of us and my Nana with a kind of sublime love. Everyone teared up watching those videos...I couldn't imagine what my Nana was feeling watching her dead husband again after all these years...younger and joking with the family like that. I haven't felt emotion like last night in a long time...just a bit numb from coming out of PPD I suppose. Miss you Popo ..you will always be that great man that all the guys in my family look up to. Christmas always reminds me of you

Awe...this made me think of my nana. Thanksgiving always makes me think of her. I grew up with her living next door. She taught me what compassion and consideration of others meant. I'm sure it was hard for your nana to see that but it was probably wonderful at the same time. :-)

Yeah she was smiling...She hasn't been able to watch videos of him for years. I started thinking about how she must be feeling...what it would feel like to lose my fiance and then see a really old video of him playing/ cuddling with all of our grandkids at Christmas like that..It got me :]… My dad was telling me stories of how my grandpa was never racist ( the small town they live in is STILL prejudice ). That black folks would step off the sidewalk for him and he would refuse and make them get back on. I love hearing new things about how they were back in the day..and looking at their old black and white photos with the first cars. Sorry I'm rambeling!

No not rambling, sharing good memories with a stranger in your parent tank :-) lol that makes it better. That is so nice your grandpa stood up and acted on what he believed in. My nana was the most generous person i knew. She was so quick to give to anyone who needed anything. I miss her so much.

I feel the same way about our elders. They have a lot of wisdom they've gained through their years that I want to tap into. However, some of their child rearing wisdom they can keep. LOL.
