Cloth diapering-just starting out.

Okay so I'm really going through with trying cloth diapers. I'm going with Alvas. But how many do I buy to start? How many inserts? I'm just not sure what you need to start out.

I have 24 diapers and....a lot of inserts. I use 2 inserts in each diaper and have extras if I buy a new diaper (which happens a lot  ) How old your child is and how often you plan on washing also play into how many you need.

Lol I keep finding cute ones but for now I'm going with the just plain solid colored ones, since they're cheaper.

She's almost 13 weeks right now, but I'm obviously hoping to keep it up for the rest of the time she's in diapers. And I'm not sure about any of this stuff. How often is reasonable for washing? And also, forgot to put in the OP that I don't know what kind of soap you use on cloth diapers?

She *might* not fit into the one size diapers because she's still pretty young. I've heard that babies typically start fitting into the one size diapers around 10 pounds, but it really depends on the build of the child. I wash every other day and ti works great for us.
I use Country Save detergent on my diapers and love love loooove it. I've tried others and wasn't impressed.
If I were you, I'd count how many diapers she goes through in one day, then order accordingly and make sure to have a couple extras in case your sick and can't wash diapers, go somewhere overnight, she goes on a pooping spree, etc etc.

I used bum genius one size and loved them. i always used bum genius detergent or country save. I washed every three days or so.

Personally, I wouldn't order all my diapers from one site. If you go ahead and order 30 Alvas and don't like them, you spent a lot of money on diapers you don't like. I've tried a few brands I hated, and thank god I didn't order a whole bunch of them. I would order 10 or so and see if you like them, especially since Alva has free shipping. But that's just me.

Lol, well she's 15 pounds so hopefully they fit. And where do you buy the detergent? Just at a regular store like walmart or online? And alright I'll start counting diapers and see how many I'd need. Then should I just order like twice as many inserts?

The diapers come with one insert each, but I'd order a few more to have on hand. And I buy my detergent at Sprout's.

I only have like 11 or 12 in the cart so far. And that's what I was gonna start with just to see. How many liners would you start with then?

A store   You can get the detergent online though haha

They each came with two. One newborn liner and a big liner.

Haha, I figured. We just don't have it here. We only have Walmart, Shopko, and like dollar stores haha. But okay I'll look for it

I had to order mine online. Walmart Carries some cleaner detergents now like ecos so you might find something ok at Walmart
