names picked!!! but...

For a girl we decided on Sicily Grace and for a boy DH picked Jackson Daniel.

Well, during dinner at MIL the namea got brought up. They love the boy name but don't like Sicily. WTF? SIL said she would call her Grace not Sicily. I politely said you can call her Lily not Grace her name is Sicily not Grace whatever. Can someone please tell me if you would get hurt or upset because afterall it is OUR child and we want a name that is different and beautiful and appropriate for a grown adult professionally. I've always been a fan of different names and all our children's names have meanings on why we chose them. I just feel kind of disrespected.

At least they were honest with you. So many kids are running around with horrible names because people tell their parents the names are so great.

Nobody liked that I wanted to name my son henry but I'm doing it. He's coming out of my vagina so I'll pick whatever name I please  

FYI -- I love the name Sicily!!! I'm not sure about grace, but that's just because I knew a girl with that name that I didn't particularly care for lol. It's normal to be offended, but just know that their opinions aren't worth jack smurf. You'll be writing it down on the Birth Certificate, not them

they're just being honest, but when it comes to baby names you're gonna find everyone has an opinion. But... a "friend" of mine named her kid jaxson daniel and I personally think it's ridiculous. She's a heavy drinker so I guess it fits but I can't stand it. Sicily is cute it's different. I mentioned "adelita" to my MIL just as a throw it out there kinda thing and she shot that down saying she'd have to call her "addy". *shrug* she did that to Kessiahrose too, she calls her "kessi" instead. w/e kid is ours and spends majority of the time with us.

Everyone has an opinion when it comes to baby names. If you don't want to hear other opinions, don't share the name. Guarantee when the baby is born, no one will look at the baby and say to you "wow, that's a horrible name" at least not to your face anyway.... this is why we chose to not tell our family and friends what names we had picked out.

Thanks. Grace was choosen because my maiden name starts with a G and because I told DH I wasn't to fond of Silicy Rain. So, DH picked the names with little help from me.

True. DH wanted a son with his initials JD and he loves Daniel and only J name is Jackson he liked. He originally wanted Jaxon but I.told him thats too common now and its doesn't look.right.

hubby and I got a lot of crap for wanting to name a boy "ryder storm" like the Doors song   we never had a boy so its nothing now but yeah everyone has an opinion. Like AP said- ur vagina, your choice!!

well out here ppl aren't so nice. I've had a bakery person at walmart tell me my oldest's name is "too long for her to spell it when she's old enough too, let alone say, the poor thing". .... Kes introduces herself as "kessiahrose angela p.i.p" ... she can't spell the last name but she tries. she can say it just not spell it lol

Lol that's cute. I heard the same thing about Natalyn's name because she says her name is Natalyn Rae. (My oldest daughter). I like her namd though btw
