Yes! Finally! :)

posted 22nd Nov
So I had my 39 week check up yesterday and while I was there, I had my 'bloody show' (It was sick, but I was excited) and I have also dilated to a 4 already since last friday when I was only a 2. The doctor decided she would go ahead and induce me next Monday since my blood pressure is still pretty high ( I think it was 161/101 last time and this time it was 143/101 but no protein in my urine yet). I'm super excited especially since she said I may have to go to 42-43 weeks! But after seeing my blood pressure and checking out baby she didn't even hesitate to call the hospital for a booking. Now I'm just waiting and hoping for a healthy little baby boy

How many other mamas had to be induced? I wanted him to come on his own, I walked and had sex and ate spicy foods, pretty much everything that sounded natural and safe to get him to start making his way down but it hadn't worked, and I'm really nervous about pitocin... Just would like some good stories!

I was just recently induced because I dilated to 4 without labor, it was a quick labor. Since you are already 4cm you should go pretty fast! I had pitocen with every single one of my kids and had no problems whatsoever, they were all fast labors. My 6th baby (had him 2 weeks ago) I went into the hospital at 11am and had him at 3pm.

As long as your body is ready I think inductions go smoother. It's when u try to force what it's not ready for that makes them harder and more difficult.

I'm so glad to hear that! I'm glad your babies are all great! And congrats on your new little one
I shouldn't have googled pitocin, I saw lots of horror stories lol!!

Yeah probably because most inductions happen when mamas body isn't ready. My body was ready and contracting and dilated but it just wasn't occurring naturally and my bp was getting high and I was getting some
Protein. So they did it to be safe. I went in at 7 had her at 6:06. 11 hours. I can't complain.

That makes sense. I've apparently been contracting as well ( didn't know it until I got hooked up to the machine) but the contractions were so whacky and finally just quit after an hour lol. Only 11 hours? That's not bad at all! Did the pitocin make the contractions more intense for you? My grandmother said when she had to be induced her contractions were so much more painful than when she went in on her own, even though she was farther dilated getting induced than she was when her water broke with #2!

Well I didn't even have discomfort until about 3:00. Then it got bad because my body was fighting the contractions of the pitocin because it was trying to do its own thing and so they turned off the pitocin but by that time I was delirious with pain. So I opted for some meds which made it worse. I felt loopy and out of control. So I got a spinal med that only lasts 45 mins and once that wore off it was time to push. So really only from 3-5:00 was the worst of it. Then I pushed and had her but that was all unassisted by then no pitocin anymore or meds. So it Was just a normal labor at that point.

Lucky you! I don't think I could do it without a full epidural (even though I'm going to try), way to go! So one more question, lol sorry! Did they go ahead and start you on the pitocin when you showed up at the hospital, or did you have to have the gel they rub on your cervix? I know it's different in every case, but since our circumstances are pretty close, i'm just curious!

nope as long as youre dilated enough you usually dont need the cervadil or anything. I just went in and they did all the vitals blah blah blah and then got me on IV meds for GBS and started pitocin. idk when exactly I was finally put on pitocin, probably a good hour after arrival after they do all the formality crap. I was 3-4 cm dilated and contracting 4-5 mins apart when I got to the hospital. In retrospect I probably should have waited, but who was to know thats how I would be the day of my induction. I could have held out a week and had an emergency csection due to eclampsia, so in the end I had a healthy baby and a safe delivery. So thats what matters.
