Opinion? Am i wrong?

Last night we went to a close friend of mines house for pre-thanksgiving dinner. Our older daughter is best friends with their old daughter. Mine is three almost four and hers is four almost five. My little girls has never had a haircut, other than when I do it, and i only trim it. I will not allow her to have sissors, other than the ones that can only cut paper. Well last night, being the hovering mother I am, I checked on them about every thirty minutes. Its a new enviroment, and not as babyproof as our house so I was all over the kids. Thankfully i did this because when i went to check on them about the fourth or fifth time, I couldn't find them right away. Then i yelled my daughters name and she said "Right here momma, look (childs name) is cutting my hair!". Automatically, i yelled at the child cutting her hair, (only yelling her name and "NO"). I snatched my daughter up to check the damage. Being alarmed her parents came running down the hall, and her Dad starting yelling at her. After this is when it got bad, my friend (the little girls mother), started screaming at her husband for discipling their child. Saying it wasn't her fault it was both of their faults, that her child isn't the only one to blame. She nearly took his head off for about 15 minutes saying it wasn't a big deal, it will grow back. She cut off half of her hair on the left side to the middle of her ear. God knows how bad it would have been if i hadn't checked on her. Their daughter has cut her own hair several times, and has been discplined for it. I am very angry that she tried to say her daughter didn't deserve to be in any trouble at all for this, and they were both just as guilty. That her child shouldn't have known any better than mine, even tho this has happened before and she has gotten in trouble for it. She is always trying to make it seem like her child is gods gift, and that mine is a spoiled rotten brat. Am i wrong to be still be harboring a little anger after this scene? Then she went on to say it looks like she has a "mullet", and laughed about it. Saying the entire thing is funny. My little girl LOVES her hair, and always talks about how she wants it to be long as tangled's. Am i overreacting? or would this make you a little mad too? Not that she cut it, but that she thought her child should have been in no trouble and that is "funny".

I would have needed to just leave. I would have been irate if it would have been my daughter, and I don't have a daughter I have three boys. But it makes total sense to me for you to be angry.

No offense but regardless of what their dd does it is still your job to teach your daughter scissor safety. My dd has had scissors without supervision since she was 2 because I Hve always stressed what scissors are an aren't for. She's 5 and has never cut anything inappropriate. I ask her constantly "what do we cut with sissors?" and "who cuts your hair?" her answers are "paper that mommy gives me " and the "salon or mama". But scissor accidents do happen at that age. So idk who's to blame. I had a girl with very responsible parents cut her bangs off to her scalp 3 times in one year.

Oh man. I would have flipped a brick if that happen to my daughter. I haven't cut my daughters hair ever. It is almost to her butt and she LOVES her hair. I think the other kids father is right at disciplining her but I would also have talked to my child and told her that it is not okay to have someone cut her hair without mommy's permission. I am so sorry that happened.

I would have been upset, especially over the fact that the mother doesn't think the child should be disciplined. I would probably cry   BUT try to look at the bright side.. it will grow back and this will be a story that you and your daughter will be able to laugh about when she's older.

When the other mom laughed and took a jab @ the hair/situation, I would have flipped my lid.

Yep I agree with you.

All though, my daughter did cut her hair last year, I was at work and grandpa was looking after her...I get a phone call and I smurf bricks, I didn't think it was going to be THAT bad lol, poor girl looked like a boy until it stated to grow, she knows better now.

I have taught her scissor safety, she knows she is not allowed to touch scissors and she didn't. I dont' think a under schoolaged child should be allowed to have scissors that are sharp, due to the accidents that could happen. That is just my opinion. But that is a good idea, I am going to start teaching her nobody cuts her hair other than mommy.

I did! She knows now. I wasn't happy with her either, and I talked to her about it. I think she knows now to never let anyone cut her hair again.

It really takes a lot of reinforcement. Like literally everyday we talked about it and Everytime she got scissors out. It does suck. I would have freaked out too but since my dd knows about scissors she would have been disciplined because she knows better. You can't really do anything about what other parents do with their kid unfortunately. But I would have definitely cried. That's why I reinforced scissor use sooooo much because I was petrified of her cutting her hair. But I am a prek teacher and find scissor use a very important part of development. So I was not going to deprive her because of my fears. But really little
Kid blunt tip scissors aren't that sharp even the metal ones. But the plastic ones can be used to cut play dough. I just couldn't find any in stores here.

That is good.   But I agree with you. Your daughter shouldn't get in trouble.

The little blunt tip ones are the one she used. I have these plastic ones with a small metal piece on it, they work great with paper and construction paper, but they wont cut hair or clothing. she has never even really tried to cut her own hair at all becuase she loves it so much and want it to get long like "tangled". And I did cry a little bit   but it will grow back. This friend of mine is always a little snappy with my daughter and always acts like her is better so i think this has just put a lot more strain on the friendship.

Yeah that need helps. I have a friend like that too. I can't stand being around them. They're the same age diff too as your dd and her friend and te girl is always bro g bossy and snotty with my dd and acting like a know it all. It pisses me off. I told the girl last time we were together "I'm not letting lylian play with you anymore because I'm sick of you being mean to her" and she was good the rest of the day. But her mom just let's her do it. Everytime were out together I txt SO just so I can bite my tongue with her mother. Ugh.
