Pain in nipples
posted 22nd Nov
My baby is 5 days old and breastfeeding. At first I had trouble positioning him and latching but now we are pretty good at it. Last night however I've noticed I have hard lumps in my breasts and sometimes I get a shooting pain in my nipples. I especially get the shooting/stabbing pain when I am cold. Anyone know what causes that and if it's something I should be concerned about?

When you are nursing gently rub out the lumps baby should empty them out, they are just milk pockets. The shooting pain is probably your milk coming down.

I talked to my friend who happenes to be an IBCLC. I didn't even think to mention being cold when it happens, just the pain. First thing she reccommended was to put a blanket around me and to get warm.Worked like a charm.
