Age for sleepover

posted 22nd Nov
How old do you think is appropriate for your LO to have a sleepover with someone other than family?

I ask because my DD (she is 5) has been asking to stay the night at her best friend from schools house. I have known her aunt and kinda her mother since I was in elementary school. It makes me very nervous to think she could be old enough for it. My DH thinks she is ready.

5 seems reasonable, especially since you know the girl's family fairly well.

If she thinks she can handle it and you know the family well enough, then I would try it. But be prepared for the possibility of having to pick her up in the middle of the night if she gets homesick.

I think 5 is a pretty good age. Especially since you know her family. I would let her go.

I would not at that age cause I feel my 5 yr old is so young! But I don't know when I'll be ready. I don't mind hosting sleep overs ( I have had sleepovers for my 2 yr old and her friend- my " friends" daughter)

I will know when it comes time I guess

Probably at like 10 or so. My brother is nine and doesn't like to stay at others houses he wants to be home

I'm super weird. I had plenty of sleep overs. I thought it was weird when my one friend's mom wouldn't let him sleep over ever, even though my parents were home and it was a mixed party.

Now, I'm the mom that will never let my kids sleep over. No kids will stay at my house, either. We can have play dates, they can go on outings, but I'm not going to trust some other adult with my kid, nor will I be responsible for another person's spawn.

im gonna have to say 10. ONLY because I want my daughters to be old enough and have the self confidence to tell me if anything happens wherever they go. Of course I would meet the parents but you never really know someone and if anything happened while my daughters were at there house they would have to be old enough where they couldn't be intimidated. I know not everywhere is like that but I think about those things. Its just too scary.

I have been thinking about the same thing recently as my LO will be 4 next week and my husband keeps talking about sleepovers. I think he is clueless about the lack of sleep associated with sleepovers. I think that he thinks we will tell them to go to sleep at 8, they will giggle until 8:30 and then go to sleep.
I, on the other hand, think it will be nothing but shenasmurfns and running around at all hours of the night. Lol
