What does this sound like?

posted 22nd Nov
My son stayed overnight at his grandmas house (his fathers mother) the other day and I forgot his medication there. Tylenol, saline nasal spray, vicks and some natural cough/sore throat stuff. Today his cough started acting up and he got a runny nose. My sons father showed up at my parents to pick up my son (my dad was watching him while I was at work earlier and I went over afterwards to visit with him) and said he was going to take my son to his grandmas. My dad said to him "Is the medication still there?" then I said "Oh right! The medication, can you pick it up from your moms? Its in a bag" so my sons father said yes and then left.

...when he came back I asked him if he got the medication. He said "what medication?" I said "I asked you to get the medication that was left at your moms" he said "no you didnt" then I said "yes I did, dad asked too" to which my dad said "yes we asked and you said you would bring it" then he said "I wasnt paying attention" so I said "yes you were, you even said yes" then he said "thats just what I say when I dont understand" followed by "hes not even coughing" so I said "his cough gets worse at night"

Then he went to leave and when I asked if he was going to pick up the medication he said no, that it was "smurfing retarded. "

This isnt a one time thing. Its happening really often, where I will ask him to do something and then when he doesnt do it he says I never asked him or never told him. I cant tell if he has some mental issue where he really doesnt remember these things, if he never is paying attention, or if he just wants to get out of doing things.

He has a good memory for certain things. He also remembers other parts of our conversations perfectly. The only part he didnt remember was the medication part. And he wasnt distracted either, we were in a quiet room and he was staring right at me when we were speaking.

He does it all the time with all sorts of things. Instead of just saying he forgot he will go to extremes and say that these conversations never happened, that Im crazy, etc. Its starting to weird me out.

Maybe there is some kind of an attention disorder that he doesn't know he has...or hasn't paid attention to lol. My husband has been battling severe anxiety and depression since he was about 8 or 9. He often forgets things that I've just reminded him of 5 minutes earlier, from what the doctor has told us its basically considered to be unnecessary information by the brain and is tuned out because there are so many other things that the brain is trying to process at the same time, it is difficult for it to remember everything sometimes.

I was just talking to my friend about this and I started remembering other specific examples of this happening. They all involve him having to do something. Example. This weekend on my way home from work I said I'd be home in 30 minutes, and guess what you have enough time to do? He said what and I told him "unload the dishwasher!" he asked if the dishes were clean and I told him they were. Well when I got home he hadnt done it. When I asked him why he said I never asked him. But he remembered other parts of the conversation. So I think hes just really really lazy. He was there with my son all day, he mustve noticed the dishes needed unloading as well.
