Am I too overprotective?

posted 21st Nov
DD has never stayed the night away from me. (Not because of me, I live with my mom so she can't take her, FIL has personal reasons why he won't).

But, now that she's 16 months old and has never been away from me overnight, I'm really weird about people keeping her for me. Sometimes my mom will keep her if I have to make a quick trip to the grocery and it's really cold outside, and I find myself rushing and worrying the entire time I'm gone.   I trust my mom with her 100%, so I don't know why I feel like that. I get really bad anxiety if we leave her and go to Home Depot 40 minutes away.

Do I just need time away from her? At FIL's he's always telling me "Norah is fine, you can go sit down and relax" but I still follow her around to make sure she's not getting into anything. And I make sure she's in my sight the entire time.

So do I just need to try to chill out? I feel silly. I thinks she's definitely going to need preschool so we can get used to being away from each other.

I was like that before I started working when my daughter was 17 months.

Being away from her sometimes will benefit both of you. I understand the feeling though, I was there once, and I'm much happier, as is she, with our independence.

over protective for sure start with short amounts of time and when you find yourself worrying remind yourself that shes having fun and shes very safe with who shes with if your mom or FIL have camera phones ask them to take a picture of her playing for you and send it to you the daycare DD is at takes pics of her playing and sends them to me while im in class

The only thing I think is totally rational is the over night thing. I wouldn't necessarily think that is abnormal to not want to leave her somewhere for an over night with someone.

I helicopter parent. My kids seem to get into less trouble that way. I also have separation anxiety. Lol

ALso I must ask... How cold does Kentucky get that you don't want to take your baby out? Lol

It gets down in the 30s, it's not too cold I just don't want to get her dressed up and drag her out when I'm only getting milk   Lol

Lol. That's still bathing suit weather. It's only gotten as low as -13F here this year so far.... Before windchill. I feel bad when I take my kids out in the cold.

Gosh I would hate that. Winter is not my friend. The coldest it gets here is in the teens.
