Doomsday Preppers yesterday

posted 21st Nov
I'm just watching yesterday's episode of Doomsday Preppers. Did anybody else see the jerk who met his fiance online and had her move to Maryland from Columbia to get married and didn't tell her he was a prepper? He sprung it on her when she got out of the cab from the airport on her first ever trip to the US. What an smurf! I feel so bad for her! She has been in the country for a matter of hours and he already made her bug out and learn to shoot a pistol. WTF?!

all preppers are freaky. I'm not surprised. He's probably got her locked in a bunker somewhere trying to convince her that she's supposed to repopulate the earth with him, because zombies are taking over on the 21st of dec.

actually, yeah. They are.

If you really honestly think the end of the world is going to happen. Based on non scientific "evidence" Your screws are more than a little loose. If you have to hoard canned goods and ammo, because zombies or zombie jesus or the smurfing easter bunny is going to get rid of men, You need meds and a dose of reality and probably be heavily medicated.

Like half of the people who prep on this show are prepping for natural disasters. Those really do happen lol

Tornadoes, earthquakes, etc. If being prepared makes you crazy, then I wanna be crazy!

Smurf could break loose and then what? I'd rather be prepared and have a handle on smurf than be running around, not knowing what to do. Will zombies reign the world? Probably not. But multiple natural disasters leaving many without food, power, etc for long periods of time? Not unlikely.

Prepping for natural disasters isn't crazy, it's smart. There more than likely won't be a zombie apocalypse but if people want to think so then they can.

I'm not a diehard, but I do "prep" for natural disasters. Particularly blizzards.

It's all well and good to make fun of it until you get trapped on an inaccessible mountain for a week after a big snowstorm (which occur every few years here) takes out your only access road and the bridge with it, you have no electricity, run low on food, can't do laundry, and end up riding a horse 12 miles through snow that'd be up to your elbows if you were on foot, just to get basic supplies... and the stores are out of most things because no one else was prepared either, even though these snowmageddons are a regular deal up here.

BIIIIIGGGG wakeup call for us a few years ago when we first moved here.

I don't have a bunker or rooms filled with canned goods or anything. But I do keep enough food for a couple of weeks, and DH have taken it upon ourselves to learn how to survive and provide without services and the comforts of modern life. What happened to us here in late 09 and early 10 was normal (as in, happens every 5-10 years I think is what I heard) for this region; we'd be smurfed without "preps" if an abnormal storm hit. Thank goodness we're moving back to Ontario, services are better prepared and timelier there, and there's good infrastructure, but I'm still going to keep canning food and keep my skills sharp.

Exactly. We have a generator, some gas, enough water for about 2 weeks and some easy to prepare emergency foot (ravioli, tuna, spam, etc). If we ever got hit with another Katrina or something like that, we could make it until help got here.
