When he asks for a drink try giving him a snack instead. My oldest son used to do this and I started giving him snacks instead. Now he doesn't ask for a drink nearly as much.

SOs LO is the same way its not that hes thirsty he likes the sugar and the taste plus those kind of drinks make you thirsty i give him water he drinks it his dad or mamaw give him water and he throws a fit he knows youll give in
