Toddler and talking

posted 21st Nov
How many words can your toddler say? My son will be 2 in Janurary and he can only say Mama, Dada, and bye bye...that's it! he still jabbers like he did when he was 9 months. He will have melt downs alot becausee he can't communicate with me to let me know what he wants at times. It's so frustrating. I do read to him and talk to him alot. But he has also suffered from alot of ear infections. Should i be worried? I've already been talking to a speech therapist.

Has his pedi mentioned it being concerning?
Kids all develop at different rates, some much later than others.

DD is 1 1/2 and can say a ton of words and will repeat almost anything. DS barely said anything until he was 2 or so and then his vocabulary expanded and he never stopped talking..ever again

my son who will be 2 next month, says well over 100. he talks in 2-3 word sentences most of the time. but i wouldn't worry about your LO too much just yet, every toddler develops their speech at different rates.

I told his pedi that I was concerned and he referred me to a speech therapist. But I found one better on my own. My oldest son when he was his age was talking my ears off. He talked very well. My baby he isn't doing that. just bothers me...but i know i may need to give him more time

My 18 month old can say these words:
Mommy
Daddy
Go
Stop (lol)
No
Bye Bye
Hi-Hi (always two, idk why.)
Ball
Nose
Mmm Good (when eating)
She's recently just started saying ball, nose, stop and mmm good. She will only say this around me and SO though, not around other people.

lol yeah, she knows if she keeps saying it, she'll keep getting more. But she doesn't say words like I thought she would, like more. I thought that would be first lol.

Every kid really is different. My kids are night and day when it comes to speech.

My 3 1/2 son was barely talking at 2. He said shoes, juice, mama, dada and maybe some other random words. He did regress because his sister was born when he was 19 months old. It turned out that he did have a speech delay (and to a degree, he still does..although he's been catching up).

My 2 year girl(she turned 2 last week) is, imo, advanced in her speech. Her vocab is very large and can speak in 4-6 word sentences. Tantrums are bad because not only does she throw tantrums, she also argues with me or tells me "Me don't like you, mama." or "Why you so mean to me?".   She's much more demanding because she can tell me exactly what she wants. "Give me that ____ , mommy" It's so annoying.

My 2 year old speaks clearer than her older brother and although he's obviously more advance in way he picks and chooses words, they're almost at the same level when it comes to speech.
