question?

My cousin just had her baby and they told her not to use baby lotion on her they told her to use vaseline or aquaphor? Isn't that what baby lotion is for? Also vaseline you have to be careful not to get in their eyes. Just curious and if anyone knows why. TIA

babies don't need baby lotion, it is just a product that we get suckered into buying... babies don't need more then a bath or two a week, they don't get dirtyif you clean them properly with diaper changes. Companies want you to use products to make money... that's all it is. They don't need the chemicals to be absorbed in their skin that are found in all the yummy smelling baby products.

I understand that but I guess it's to prevent cracking after they are first born that's what her Dr and nurses have told her.

I love baby lotion, smurf smells amazing. But they don't NEED it. If they get cracked skin, aquaphor and vasoline would do the trick without all the scent.

if she is eating well she will be well hydrated and that won't be an issue... I never ever used it on my daughter and she was fine... vaseline is good... I wouldn't rub it all over like a lotion just on spots that may "crack"

My son had eczema & cradle cap and the pediatrician told me that those Johnson's baby lotions can actually make it worse, due to the perfumes and chemicals and whatnot. They will seem to moisturize skin for a while and then actually make the skin dry out more. Vaseline and aquaphor will sit on the skin for longer and act as a protectant, I assume.

This is what I was thinking. It's going to be hard for me not to use baby lotion I LOVE how it smells.

yes very true... and I always use vaseline mixed with zinc oxide for diaper rash too, the vaseline helps to remove the cream... diaper rash creams tend to be overly sticky and if not washed off properly can cause a worse issue so mixing with vaseline does the trick   this is something I learned at work being and RN with stroke patients and their incontinence etc with broken down skin... so then I used it with my DD when she had a diaper rash too... why not?? worked for the elderly's frail skin, should work on an infant

Baby lotion = yummy goodness all mother's want to use just for the baby smell... I just use it on myself if I want to smell that yummy clean baby smell hehe

I know it sounds weird but honestly my ladies olive oil is the BEST thing for moisturizing skin!! Better than vasaline and everything else. It is full of vitamin e and other essential fatty acids we should consume daily to protect our skin (one of the most important organs on our body) but don't. Give it a try (even in your hair) and I promise you, you won't go back! It gives you skin like a baby's bottom after the first use (I kid you not!) and only gets better the more you use it. You'll start to glow, it is amazing. Just don't use to much because it is so powerful so it takes a long time for your body to absorb it all. (like 20 min) It is very sticky just have patience you'll never have a better outcome with any lotions you buy. Even 30$ hemp, body shop good stuff, anything, this kicks em all to the curb. Coconut oil does the same thing pretty much, but absorbs faster. If you hate how sticky the olive oil is try it out, but even still I find it doesnt give you the same benefits olive oil does. Its worth the sticky wait, it leaves your skin alot softer. Best beauty trick I ever learned, and I'll deffintly be using it on my boy when he's out instead of all that Lauryl Sulfate Soduim EDTA stuff that makes me itch now and drys me right up. (Totally stops stretch marks too!) Good luck momma's!
