Short umbilical chord... advice?

My friend has had it pretty rough. She just found out that there is a chance the baby has down's syndrome, a heart problem, and other issues. Her umbilibal chord is short and is only 2 chambers instead of three. Due to the holiday, they can't see her until next thursday.   Does anyone have knowledge on this topic? Thanks.

The Downs test isn't always correct, I've heard. They said my niece would have down's but she's perfectly healthy.

My newborn had the single umbilical artery. Babies can have it and have zero problems like my son, or it comes with chromosomal defects like ds, kidney and/or heart issues, and babies can not gain weight properly.

i dont know about it being short or anything like that... sorry..

Conans cord was only 2 vessels also.. our ob said it was fine.. and that some cords just dont have that third vessel.

I think the baby will have kideny and heart problems. Her blood test didn't show abnormalities, so my opinion is that it is not downs syndrome. I hope she can get some solid answers. They are asking her to do the amnio test.... but it is very high risk so she is trying to weigh her options.

Yeah Im for the most part against getting amnios done, they scare me with how risky they are. I know with just the two vessel cord they should be doing extra ultrasounds alteast monthly and will do a indepth ultrasound to check out the babies heart and kidneys. I hope everything turns out well for her baby. I was scared as hell when I found out about the two vessel cord.

The risks from an amnio are only 1:250, so not really that risky. I've had them done and they aren't a big deal at all. You just cramp when the needle goes in. Brighton was suspected to have a heart defect early on and later ultrasounds showed everything was fine. I honestly would get the amnio done to find out what she's dealing with.

Hopefully it's nothing major she has to deal with. I had 15-week amnios with both boys and an amnio at 33 weeks for lung maturity with each kid as well. I had another one at 37 weeks with Brighton because the hospital required it before I could be induced. Apparently the 33-week one that showed lungs mature enough to not need steroids wasn't good enough. LOL! After the amnio they just had me stay lying down for 30 minutes so the uterus could relax. I was a little scared the first time, but it wasn't anywhere near as bad or painful as I expected. And the whole thing was done with an ultrasound so they were sure they weren't getting too close to baby or cord.

The down syndrome test can be wrong it has a high percentage rate of being wrong. My cousin had a positive one and her baby is just fine. I though the heart had 4 chambers though? As far as the cord I haven't heard anything about that so I'm no help on that.

im 28weeks and at 20 weeks my son had a large right kidney i went back at 23 weeks and his kidney was better but now he is measuring small i had blood test done and it came back fine i wont have anymore test done to see if hes got down syndrome cause im gonna love him no matter what i wanna think hes just fine but then again im worried about it at 27 weeks they did another u/s and he is 1lb 7oz and he should be 2lbs at 27weeks tell her i said good luck and try not to stress it will be what it is she will love her baby i have talked to some moms with kids with ds and most grow up and live a great life like any other child  but like i said hearing there could be something wrong with ur child is very hard to deal with and you still worry about the what ifs...
