Madeline/Madalyn

posted 21st Nov
Okay so... SO said he likes the name (pronounced) Mad-Uh-Lynn.

I strongly dislike Madalyn/Madalynn.... just that whole Y thing makes it look so made up. But, Madeline will be pronounced Mad-uh-Line (at least to me).

Would you pronounce Madeline like Mad-Uh-Line or Mad-Uh-Lynn? And would it be worth it to spell it Madeline and constantly tell people it's pronounced like Madalyn?

I like the NN Maddie   Maddie Sue

I'm sure this will change, btw.... but it's just a thought right now, lol.

Madeleine can be pronounced either LINE or LYN. Spell it correctly and pronounce it the way you want. Who cares if it will be mispronounced by idiots. At least its not a horrible mispronunciation and she won't be asked how the hell she spells it.

It's a classic name and deserves to be spelled properly.

So Madeleine is the correct way to spell it? I never knew   I always thought it was Madeline because of the book

I know, it just looks so weird to me. Sort of juvenile.

Well, it's good to know others will pronounce it Mad-uh-lyn

both ways are correct.   Madalyn is definatly not correct. LOL

THe only "trendy" version I'd consider OK is Madelyn because it's pronoucned Mad-eh-lyn. not Mad-ah-lyn.

My daughter was almost Madelyn Sage. I'm SO thankful my husband said no. I love the name, but don't ask me why I was stuck on that horrible spelling. Chalk it up to pregnancy hormones and being temporarily stupid.

Yeah I just can't get down with the spelling.

I think I prefer Madeline to Madeleine... I think a lot of people would forget that second E.
