This Fox commentator said something wildly inappropriate about how she would look all hot and sexy if she lived on the welfare budget for food. At least, I found it inappropriate. Do you agree that food stamps do not provide enough to have a normal diet? Or, do you think food stamps provide too much? I'm curious. I'm bored (hence, why I'm on Salon.com)

I think it allows people to get a bunch of stupid, useless smurf. If you use them wisely you can stretch it and do well..

MOST people I know that have food stamps get far more than they actually need. I'm sure that's certainly not the case for everyone though.

It just depends on how much you get. $400+dollars a month, we'd eat just as well as we do now. $250-$400, we'd eat okay. Anything less than $250/month, I imagine I'd be really hungry because I'd make sure LO and DH ate first.

Food stamps is based on income, so most of the time you still have to use your own money to make ends meet.
With that said I don't see how it's any different than using cash/debit/credit
If you budget and meal plan, food stamps can get you the same amount of food as any other form of payment would.

When I went on unpaid maternity leave they gave me $547 a month for me, my 3 yr old and a newborn. I was like wtf would I need that much food for?

I think it depends on the individual person. You can choose to have a healthy or unhealthy diet no matter where ur money comes from.

No way. We ate way better on assistance, when I could actually afford tons of fresh fruits and veggies and whole grains and better cuts of meat...

Foodstamps are supposed to be a helpful supplement for providing food, NOT the only way you get food each month.... I get that this is not the case for most ppl on them, but that's just crazy! Most ppl on them waste them and spend the money on pop and junk food too which is ridiculous

way too much I wish we could do away with them except for elderly and disabled.

my sister got about 585 for her and her 3 kids, she had enough to feed her house and buy my mom her groceries.

I think the same goes to everyone even if they aren't using food stamps.
If you eat "a bunch of stupid, useless smurf" then you're most likely going to eat it with or without food stamps.

It depends on what the people spend it on. You can get healthy foods, and contrary to popular belief eating healthy isn't THAT expensive I find all the junk foods too be way more expensive and overpriced tbh. 5 dollars for a box with 4 packages of mini muffins? Yea.. How about we skip that and spend 5 dollars on 2 bunches of bananas, or 2 cartons of blueberries, or 2 heads of lettuce. Some people just spend money stupidly.

Quoting dat uterus tho:" No way. We ate way better on assistance, when I could actually afford tons of fresh fruits and veggies and whole grains and better cuts of meat..."
I dream about qualifying for food stamps so that I could spend more than $300/month on food. We eat ok on that, but we could really eat well with what EBT gives.
Actually, I'm trying to get a better job. I don't have it yet though. :/
