I HATE they go by pay before taxes. I have to pay taxes for TWO states out of my paycheck. I live in Missouri but work in Kansas and so both can take out of my check. I have 230 taken out of each paycheck and i get paid bi-weekly.

When I called to cancel my son's medicaid they told me "You can still keep it as a secondary insurance since you're unmarried."   I was like "Um, no thanks, I don't want to take those resources away from someone else. But thank you."

I know! Same smurf in NYC. DH works in Brooklyn and we live in Queens so that's 2 separate tax cuts.

I say People get too much in food stamps, but I want it cut to zero unless you are elderly or disabled. If you can make it to a food pantry or a soup kitchen, you don't need stamps.

My area doesn't have a food pantry or a soup kitchen. They have a couple of churches giving away food once a month, but it is only one grocery bag full and most of the food is not good.

You could always start one if your area really needs it. Most grocery stores will give away imperfect produce if you ask, and people always donate canned goods. Charities like Mercury One also donate to towns in need to get started.

What about if you buy all your healthy food for the month, but still have a lot left over? Is it wrong to still spend that extra on junk?

We got $390 a month for myself, dh, and our newborn. It was enough for us to eat healthy fresh meals every day, and we still had enough to buy me chips, donuts, bagels, granola bars, pop tarts, etc so I could have some quick snacks while breastfeeding or being nauseous in the morning.

And don't forget a nursing mother and retarded father's addiction to ice cream!

If you get enough to buy all that, you should ask them to cut your funds back. Every dollar you can spend on junk food is a dollar that someone else could be using for healthy food. It's supposed to be a supplement so you don't starve to death, not something to feed everyone junk food.

What counter point is there to make? That in the 21st century you feel we should roll back social progress to the 12th?
