I didn't "proudly" announce it, I stated it. If I'm not mistaken someone on a pervious page said they help someone else put as well.

I didn't get any of that smurf   I lived in the ghetto because that's what they'd help me pay for. I put myself in a smurfload of debt to go to school, and all of my cash stipend went to pay the childcare copay.

And how do you know that everyone on govt assistance isn't trying or working to have a lot more than they have?

Usually it sounds much better on paper than it actually is. They have waiting lists, and past issues can cause your claims to be denied or turned down. As for medical, my friend anna did not get her medicaid kicked in until about 2 weeks before giving birth. And for code, take a look at some of the apartments in most inner cities, and see how 'up to code' they are :-P.

I've put myself in debt also going to school and I don't get anything for child care nor housing assistance and the only insurance is for my sons.

Well I didn't see it, but they're idiots to. If someone wanted to report you you'd lose your assistance for life and have to pay everything you've ever received back.

DH makes $12 over the monthly income. But they go by his pay before taxes, and he has over $100 taken out of every paycheck. Needless to say all of our income goes to food and shelter.

True, but you cant forget the few that really try to better themselves but sometimes need the assistance to get them there.

I was unemployed for 12 months, two weeks ago I finally got hired at a great company with amazing career oppourtunites.
As soon as I got hired I canceled all of my government assistance, which included food stamps and Medicaid.
I am one of those people that is thankful for the services that are available for those who need it but I don't want to live on govt assistance for the rest of my life.
