re: Living on Food Stamps Would Be A Great Diet!

Food must be really expensive there. Here 2 bunches of bananas is only about 1-2 dollars, blueberries are definitely expensive and lettuce is only 1/head.

Actually more food--since EBT isn't taxed. That adds up.

I get $793 and buy food for my house as well as my grandparents because the government says their $1600 a month is too much.

I am all for people having choice, but a lot of people make similar choices when they aren't spending their own money. Expensive stuff, but not healthy stuff. Usually. Overwhelmingly, that is usually the case.

If food stamps dried up and people had less, they would budget and learn to make choices. Or maybe, get a better job. I think they would. Who knows. They might starve in the streets without the government's help with their food, and I don't want that!!

I wasn't being exact at all lol. I meant you could take that 5 and spend it elsewhere on better things and be able to get more, AND eat healthier.

Um, last time I checked the tax isn't even that much.
Everytime I go grocery shopping I spend about $120 for a week and the tax is like $5 or something like that, not anything outrageous, so it's not that much difference.

You take surveys of what people get with food stamps do you?

That's a felony and definitely not something I'd admit to doing...

I'm so sorry. It's not fair at all. You should get something to help you feed your family. Someone could go without filet mignon, 24-packs of Coke, and their bags of bbq chips so that you could get something. It makes me mad when people are stuck "in the middle" but end up with far, far less than those on food stamps, housing assistance, cash, child care assistance, etc., because they're trying to work and do better.

They baby sit my children while I'm at school, so my children and I do eat there too. I'm not just going to sit around and watch my grandparents try to share one can of vegetables because they try to budget all their bills.

Neither do you generally unless it's junk food.

Actually I eat alright, im not starving. but my diet is limited. I have a lot of rice and pasta to stretch foods and all that starch doesnt help because Im trying to lose weight. With food stamps Id actually eat a lot healthier bc I would have to stretch as much. I get no gov't assistance, except medicaid for my child. Single motherhood is not the easiest but Im surviving.

Well, their homes are up to code, they have very adequate health care and food, they can seek work or even go to school for free, with the promise of free childcare--and the State may even throw in a cash stipend monthly. YEAH. Right about now that doesn't sound bad.

Since I have none of those assurances or services. I'm not jealous, exactly, because I'm working to have a lot more than I do now--but on the other hand, having enough does actually sound kind of nice. Call me crazy...
