If you're feeling dizzy and sick slow down. Seriously. Also, increase distance and speed SLOWLY or you'll risk injury. The nike plus app is nice, but it does push people and sometimes that's not a good thing. You really really need to ease in.

I'm on my way to becoming a personal trainer, and I'm not sure what km is in miles, but I always recommend for people who are in fairly not good shape about a mile a day to start and gradually increase each week. But if you're looking to lose weight rather than just gain stamina in running it's best to do short sprints coupled with short intervals of walking.

1 mile = 1.6 kilometers, so it was around 4 miles. I want to lose weight and gain stamina.

Oh I know. I was there too! Ended up hurting my knee (which grounded me for a few weeks) and throwing myself into a horrid Fibromyalgia flare. NOT fun.

Your joints need to get used to the running. It's a high impact sport. I know you want to be at the end result NOW. I totally get it, I did it. But think of how much longer it will take you to get there if you end up with runners knee or somethign and can't train for 6 weeks.

Thats a good point. That sounds really painful!

Ah sounds like you're in fairly good shape! But if you're just running at a steady pace you're going to hit a plateau. Try the sprint intervals. Also lifting weights burns more fat than cardio does.

It was mostly walking with occasional running, but from 4 kms onwards that was all walking. I will try the short sprints next time, thanks!

Personally, my 3x's a week runs around around 5k, weekend runs either 10 or 15k's. And I'm a somewhat experienced runner. I'd build up slowly, do maybe 3k for daily. You can always look up training programs that will help you build stamina by increasing your distance gradually. I prefer Hal Higdon's.

I normally only do 15+k's when I'm training for a big event like a half marathon, which is 13.1 miles so... 20k? Takes me around 2 hours. Mind you I do a 5k on a slow day in under 40 mins.
