Premie baby.. Has anyone been through this?

posted 21st Nov
So Im currently 25 weeks pregnant. I had my daughter early about 34 weeks. My water broke in my sleep. My doctors are telling me they are 100% sure I will have my little girl early again... They give me no hope. My daughter was really sick an had problems with her heart an eatting right after she was born she stayed in NICU for 3 weeks ... Has anyone had two babies born b4 37weeks ... after this happen the first time.

Do they know why your first was early? That's the biggest thing. 34 isn't super duper early, so there's a good chance you could carry that long or longer if they're watching closely, but again. It depends on why they were early.

My first was early and they were pretty sure my 2nd would be too. However, my 2nd stayed put until 37 weeks, so there IS hope. Just be proactive about your options.

My first was born at 30 weeks and my 2nd was born at 33 weeks. It was very emotional and worrisome but they are 2 1/2 yrs and 1 yr now and doing great :-)

That sounds like your daughter had heart problems. 34 weeks is a very viable gestational age. My son was born at 34 weeks and he's 6 years old now and my water broke early with him. They gave me progesterone shots to keep my daughter in longer and she lasted until 36 weeks 4 days. Just 3 days shy of a full 37 weeks. If you take precautions like bed rest later in your pregnancy and stuff, I think you have a good chance. If you're not seeing a perinatal specialist, you need to be. And at 25 weeks, they should've been able to see any heart defects when you went for an anatomy scan back at 20 weeks.

Nope doctors couldn't figure out why my water broke.. Its something that just happen.. Im a very small person tho Im guessing my body just cant handle a big baby.. I had to have a c-section cus I was in labor for 14 hours an only 5 cm

I still think you need to see a perinatal specialist. They monitor your baby with an ultrasound at least once a month if not more often than that as it gets closer to the end. I think it's great for catching problems before they become bigger. Also, did you read up on T19 to see if it affected your baby at all? Or are you just basing it on "If I get the shot, my baby gets the shot too."?

I did read up on it .... It slows the contraction rate ur uterus has or something like that. I talked to one of my friends that got the shot . She said it worked for her but her newborn "acted funny" whatever that means... The way i look at it is whatever happens, happens natural.. Its all in gods hands

Umm I'm all for the whole trusting God thing but seriously refusing a shot that could essentially stop pre term labour and potentially save your babies life on those grounds seem pretty dumb! I think God gave us the brains to be able to discover medicines to help us! It's like that saying God helps those who helps themselves....

Yeah I agree with this. I believe in God 100% I had 2 preemies and had those shots with both of them. They slow down or stop the contractions. There is no effect on the baby. The first time I got it my heart started racing (which is completely normal and OK) but after that I never had anything happen. They are completely safe

And I still seriously think you need to look into a perinatal specialist and have the baby monitored to make sure you catch any problems. I can't believe they didn't refer you to one when you started your prenatal care.

I got those shots. THey are p17 shots. It's just progesterone really. It relaxes the uterus to help prevent contractions. This is going to sound mean, but if you think a 34 weeker was bad, try a 27 weeker. A 3 week NICU stay is hard, but if you end up with a very early preemie you can be looking at months long. My 2nd I had the shots and bedrest and he made it to term. No complications, no problems at all.

Look into the shot. The risks are VERY minimal since it isn't given until 16 weeks generally, then weekly after that. However, they have a really good success rate.

Agreed. Before I had my mc they referred me to one because I've had 2 preemies. I wonder why they didn't refer her. OP, ask your Dr about seeing a perinatal specialist.

Also, the NICU is very "unnatural." They do a lot of "unnatural" things to save babies in the NICU. You think those are okay, so why would a shot to help prevent that be against God's plan? WHy is preventing a premature delivery taking something out of God's hand, but saving a baby born premature who would die without meds and intervention okay? Aren't they really the same thing? Medical treatment?

I didnt "refuse" the shot. Me an my OBGYN talked about it. We talked about the risk an benifits of the shot and he said even with the shot it could still happen like the other girl said nothing is 100% so knowing that... I put it up to god an I never said "no" to the shot yet. Im going to the doctor in a few weeks but my doctor is also a complete jackass I wanted to know more about it an he couldnt even tell me the correct name for it so I only know what I read online but as I said I trust the lord above ... Even if that means not getting the shot which Im not sure of yet.
