The baby can go through withdrawl in-utero too which is considered to be more dangerous. They're monitored after birth for withdrawl and health problems are caught pretty quick. You don't get monitoring if you quit while pregnant unless a problem develops and you go to your doctor or L&D

Having snacks has helped me keep my sanity for the last three weeks. I usually prepare a "dipping" snack when I have cravings so that my hands and mouth get busy  

I was in your shoes when I was pregnant with my little guy. What really helped me at first was to only smoke 1/2 cigarettes. Also, stepping outside for fresh air and taking really deep breaths when I was having the urge to smoke helped a lot. And I also bought an electronic cigarette, which messed up my whole smoking ritual and that helped. But everyone is different. Good luck! You can do it. Seriously, I smoked a pack a day too. Now I'm over 3 months post-partum and I still don't smoke.

On the smoking routine bit...I still strike a lighter on occasion when I want a cigarette. And it helps with the craving. I never realized how ritualistic smoking can be until I discovered how good a lighter flick made me feel  

Not that I recommend smoking while pregnant, but my mom smoked through all 4 of her pregnancies and we were all perfectly healthy.

Its not good to quit cold turkey like the other moms have said it can send you and baby into shock i used to smoke a pack and a half a day sometimes before i got pregnant now i am down to 1 maybe 2 a day and some days i can go without it. i guess it just all depends on the person and what goes on in a day. but you can do it just cut down gradually.

well i have seen girls smoke a pack a day and there baby come out fine... i am a smoker myself. before i got pregnant i smoke a pack a day. im 32 weeks pregnant and i have a electronic cigg as well and i do still crave smoking. its very hard very very hard i smoke maybe 1 to 2 a day or sometimes none. but wheni tried to quit cold turkey i bout went insane!! so i pray i have a healthy boy and its hard just thinking about what your doing to your unborn child kills me im scared but i hope for the best it was my choice to smoke. my mother did heroin and cocaine when she was pregnant with me and she smoked weed ciggs and god knows what else but i just know that im going to be a great mother to my lil jaxson. good luck and dont stress yourself out if you need a cigg. smoke one but try and cut back get a electronic cigg it does help for a heavy smoker. i bought mine from smokesation online, kind of pricey but it is worth it. good luck mom to be!!  p.s. my husband smokes it as well and i hate him for it cause he knows how hard it is for me. he only does it on the weekends but i still want to strangle him lol.

I haven't smoked since two days after I got the positive and I still crave it like no freaking other. I can TASTE it, I dream about it...*sigh* it is making it very hard for me to stay quit

My older sister is a chain smoker. She kept all of Lucia's stuff at her house until mom could make the trip... My daughter's clothes all need to be washed, but I keep sniffing them (I'll wash them next week). They smell like ciggies and air freshener! I like it.

When SO's mom died in July he had a few smokes (understandably!) and he couldn't keep me off of him.

He doesn't know that it was because of the smoking, he thinks I was trying to make him feel better.

I'm going to Hell, I know.

I quit cold turkey the day I found out I was pregnant (October 24) It wasn't as bad for me because the smell of cigarette smoke made me sick to my stomach. My babies father and his step father smoke so I'm constantly around it and I haven't even craved a cigarette.
