I just really don't think I could handle being awake for it. Why wouldn't they let him back? That's strange..

Its like having a normal surgery. Your hubs isnt allowed in if you have your tonsils removed, you know? Its a liability I think.
You will be fine, think of it this way. If your completely out you wont be able to hear your child's first cry, or see them for the first time (until you wake up) and I think the recovery from being fully out is longer. I dont think drs, give you the option to be fully out either. I think that only done if completely necessary.

No no!! If your awake he is allowed! I thought you were asking if you were put out. If your put out he cant be in there. Sorry!!

He cant be in the room while you are getting prepped and the spinal, right before the doctor is ready to cut he is allowed in.

Oh ok, gotcha

My oldest was an emergency section, my LO was a planned section. Not sure about other places, but we had to go into the hospital the day before the surgery, which was booked for a week before he was due. We had to sign paperwork, make sure emergency contacts were written down and they went over aftercare with us and told us what to expect. They actually ended up bumping the surgery up. The original plan was for the surgery to be at 10am, and we were supposed to be there at 8 to get settled in our room, prepped for surgery etc. but they bumped it up to an 8 am surgery so we were up at 5, I showered and put on comfy clothes, we got to the hospital for 6. We got in, signed more papers, I changed into a gown and was prepped for surgery (usually involves putting in an IV, trimming and shaving any pubic hair that may be there and answer any last minute questions) For me they weren`t able to get an IV in until we were in the operating room. My husband was in the next room waiting until I was prepped and had gotten the local anesthetic and was laying down. The IV contains morphine, just so you know, so it is already in your system when the anesthetic wears off. For me, I felt the pressure of them cutting me open, but had no pain. There was a large amount of pressure and a kind`ve funny feeling when they pulled him out. I just suddenly felt very empty, it`s a weird feeling after carrying a baby for so long. Once my son was out, they took him to the side to check him and wipe him up a bit, then brought him to me to lay him on my chest. I was able to hold him for the rest of the surgery. My husband left the room when they took the baby out, just before cleaning me up and lifting me from the operating table to the bed. DH and LO were in the room waiting for me when I got there.

Things go much better when it`s a planned section. I had a horrible experience with my first as well.
