taps, reveille, retreat...

posted 21st Nov
Question for my military friends (and non-military if you wish): Do you stop your car, wherever you are, when reveille is played? I understand stopping if we are outside or walking, but stopping while driving seems reckless to me. I can't always hear it. Yesterday I almost hit a car who stopped on a dime when he heard reveille. I want to be respectful and appreciative of our solders and country, but if it is going to endanger my life or my kids' I don't think I should have to stop on the road.

I pull over and park. You can get a ticket on post here if you don't. I also get out of the car, take off my hat if I'm wearing one, and face the closest flag.

Yeah, we do. We don't dead stop in the middle of the road, we pull over. Only because some people just keep it moving.

Yeah, we never had an incident where someone just came to a dead stop...people would pull over the side of the road and get out of their cars. And yeah, they were big on tickets for those who didn't stop.

Dudes an idiot. You're supposed to pull over. Respect for the troops is great, but I don't think they'd appreciate it if someone got hurt because of it.

yeah, if I can find a place to pull over, i will. but just stopping seems even worse than if you just kept driving
