Nut allergy

posted 21st Nov
Has anyone else noticed how nut allergies in children have been drastically on the rise? It's a bit ridiculous.

I had a bad reaction to pecans in Disney when I was 17 and to peanuts in high school at the same age so I've steered clear from nuts since. I am 25 now. My fiance urged me to be re-tested and to have our 4.5 year old scratch tested as well.. So the day of the test one of the nurses rudely asked me 3 times why I was having my daughter tested because she had never had a reaciton before (well she had never had nuts before because we dont keep them in the house!) "and, tell me again, why are you having this child tested?" and every time I replied I was doing it as a precautionary.,

So let the testing begin! We were both tested for food allergies, including nuts, shell fish, soy, etc...All of my scratch test came back NEGATIVE!!

Scarlett on the other hand..

Has severe nut allergies! To ALL nuts!!! And you better believe I threw these results in that nurses face.

The allergist explained that there are 3 different types of testing for allergies and they go as followed: least accurate: blood test, mildly accurate: scratch, very accurate: oral test.

He explained that even though I didn't react to the scratch test that I should still stay away from nuts because he thinks I will most likely react to an oral test. We both carry Epipens and she is educated on how to use hers if I am not around to do so.

But what do you guys think? Do your kids have allergies? What is causing the dramatic climb in nut allergies??

Ugh I'm lactose intolerant and it's the worst! I'm hoping she grows out of the nut allergy bc they are literally lurking EVERYWHERE! It's so so scary.

I never realized until my sons allergy how many hidden ingredients there are in thing! And nuts are the worst! I feel like they are in everything! That stinks   do they feel like it is something she will outgrow? We were doing almond milk for my son but he just recently switched to normal milk and he doesn't really like it

They don't really know because allergies are soo tricky! I grew INTO mine! I never really liked peanuts or nuts as a kid but ate peanut butter occassionally and then had those reactions as a teen so I really don't know if she will or even what the perecent rate of kids who grow out of allergies is.

I have severe Nut allergies pretty much all nuts! I'm super freaked out about going to buffets and stuff the only chocolate I eat is Dove, because all others way contain traces of nuts or are made with the same equipment. I'm super couscous.

I developed peanut and egg allergies in my early 20's. I can't even get anything eggy on me or I start having a reaction .

My son had a reaction to avocado when he was little and he has never had it again.

I think the toxic environment is triggering a reaction in our immune systems and it just goes haywire. Also maybe the overuse of antibiotics or something to do with vaccines. Idk.

I have severe anxiety that I'm going to develop a new allergy. Because of my nut thing also I have medication allergies. My husband wants me to go to theropy.

It's VERY understandable... I am developing a new allergy... I had a reaction after getting a frozen coffee drink from QT about a month ago. I was driving down the road and my throat started swelling and I got itchy, which initiated an anxiety attack... and when you are already having things swell up anxiety is the last thing you need. I was out of benedryl and I didn't have an epipen with me but luckily I was by a 24 hour walgreens.

I'm the same way! My fiance thinks I'm a hypochondriac because I have Benadryl stashed everywhere! Purse, car, throughout the house lol
