Frozen turkey question!

posted 21st Nov
I bought a 14 pound frozen turkey on Saturday and put it in the fridge to thaw that day. I checked on it today and it still feels like a freaking rock! How can I safely and thoroughly thaw it for tomorrow? Cold water in the sink? Maybe our fridge settings are too high for it to that? I definitely would have thought it would have been thawed in the fridge by now :-/

we let ours sit out all night and then put it in the fridge the next morning, and it was still frozen. I would set it out

Cold water in the sink will be your best/safest bet. Change the water every hour or two. It should have thawed by now but your fridge may be too cold. Was your turkey towards the back of the fridge? That's usually the coldest area.

Bacteria grows when it's gets above 40 degrees and stays there for a while.
I'd take it out put it on the counter for a few hours and then put it back in the frig. Just keep checking it. Based on needing a day for each 4 pounds, it SHOULD be fine but may need a little time at room temp to speed the process.

cold water in the sink. Change it our every half hourso the water is still cold. do not leave it on the counter. it will warm it from the outside in rather then inside out causing bacteria to grow

I don't have a cooler big enough for it so its in the sink in cold water now. I have a timer set to change out the water so it stays cold. Hopefully it will be thawed in time for the big day!
