No doctor/ Preparing for birth

posted 21st Nov
So last year my son and all of us was denied medicaid because i was working full time and so was my husband. We barely passed the income limit. But, I still have my private insurance through my dad. I reapplied for Medicaid when I stopped working full time in September. The last time I saw the doctor was on July 25th. I was suppose to go back but instead my dh and son became really ill with pneumonia, so i didnt have money to go. I call back when i did in september to be told that i had to pay 2700 for the birthing fee then and if i didnt have it, i couldnt be seen. Even though at the time i was waiting to hear back on my medicaid. So thr doctor dropped me from his service because i could go to my appts because i couldnt pay the fee. So my medicaid, i swear they are so stupid. First they got my number wrong when i had corrected it teice, so i missed the appt and i had to wait another fifteen days. Then they want verifications and my company has to send it off to other department. No one knows who has it but it takes a month and a hslf to get the company to send it back. zin the mean time, im only approved the month of november but after that im denied. BUT my son has medicaid in december till april, we are approved for food stamps then too but my medicaid is denied. I cant get a doctor to take me because im so far along. I dont know whats going to happen when i give birth... which could be this weekend.

Go to the Health Department, today. Apply for Medicaid there and they will give you a paper stating you are covered from today on. Then you can see a Doctor asap.

If you go into labor go to the nearest hospital. They can't turn you away, even if you can't pay. They will set you up for paperwork to be a "charity case"

When you are in labor, go to the ER. Medicaid backpays 90 days so it should all be covered

The hospital would still have to take you. You can apply for charity care and they will write off a lot of your bill.

You have a say in your labor. Just tell them no, there's nothing they can do. I refused pitocin with both of my kids. Just told them no, and that was it. and with DS, it wasn't even my doc who delivered him, it was another one in the practice who was on call. His delivering doc I had never met before

I think you can go to the health department.
I had medicaid in Georgia and I moved to Tennessee when I was 32 weeks so My insurance wouldn't start in Tennessee until after I delivered so I'm stuck with a $6,000 bill
Good luck momma I know dealing when stuff like this is stressful.

Good lord. Girl, trust meeee, I am in the exact same boat. Applied for medicaid and got denied bc me and my dh make too much money. I'm 21w6d preggo and have only seen a Dr. one time. Luckily, the place I go to lets me make payments every visit, it's $167.00 each time. Regardless of your insurance situation, you go into labor and you go to the hospital. They have to treat you. I'm sorry, I know it sucks. I'm already about 800 in debt bc of the ONE dr visit, lab work and ultrasound. I'm expecting 20-30 K after it's all said and done. Like that lady said, if you DO get approved for medicaid, they will back pay that stuff. I'm sorry you have to go thru this too, I wish you the best of luck! Just remember, your LO won't compare to the amount of money it costs to have him/her.

Apply for Pregnancy Medicaid!!! You can get coverage regardless of your income and if they tell you differently, they're wrong. A pregnant woman can get medical coverage in this country, period. If you or your Husband do not have Insurance through work, then they will cover you.

Medicaid is retroactive so you should have no issue delivering at a hospital and then having Medicaid cover it. If you want to find a doctor NOW you can try to see If anyone in your area accepts Care Credit and just apply for that card. It's 0% interest if you pay it off within a year. We make $100 payments per month then I will pay it off when I receive my taxes back in February.

This is the kind of stuff that concerns me with the government taking over healthcare. They can't run the programs that are currently in effect in an efficient way, but we're supposed to trust them with ALL of healthcare?

I know. Then we, my dh and i, will have a tax placed on us if we cant afford it. We barely make rent and here in Texas you have to make less than 800 a month to qualify for adult medicaid. You have basically live with parents or on the street. Then fed says its state responsibility to make insurance more affordable insurance for lower class that dont meet medicaid income standards but perry refuses. Another thing that makes me mad is that people come across the border and get medicaid, foodstamps and dont have to provide any proof of income while im a citizen and cant anything to help my family. Im not complaining they are getting healthcare or that they are not entitled to that right. But i have to jump through hoops lit on fire before i can get help. And everyone i talk to but one person has been an ass!

I already applied...twice actually and got denied both times due to our income exceeding their guidelines. The thing that gets me is they count your GROSS income which is nowhere near what we actually bring home :-/
