Couldn't* care less. See, that's what she means. When you don't know proper English you end up saying something different than you mean....
And all those names sound pretty hick.

I want it to be different so I'm spelling it with a y and Wanee is a Cherokee name and it was my grandmother's name.

Ah....the good ole Y names. My daughter has one, but it doesn't sound hick like your kid's name. Emily Kathryn. See, pretty name with a Y. And, yes, that version of Katherine/Catherine/Kathryn is correct. It's the Greek spelling and I didn't have to make smurf up for it to be yewneek.

That's not different. That's misspelled.

Well that explains so much

Fyi, we're from Virginia and South Carolina and none of my family have hillbilly names.

Except my dad Bo John, but we don't count him.

The Greek spelling is Ekatrine...

There's no y in Greek. The closest translations are a oo sound.

That doesn't make it correct. Briar is a word, ergo it has a correct spelling.

I was told Greek, but upon looking it up, it looks like it's more of a Celtic spelling.

Yeah I think it's an anglicized version of the Celtic spelling.

My first name is Katrina and it has the same origins as Kathryn. I think it's neat how one name can splinter off into 12 other names through the ages just from what country it filters through.

It matters because it's a word and you're misspelling it. Not to mention Y names are seen as feminine these days. None. What does it matter? You didn't name yourself even though your name is also misspelled.

Most of those baby name books are packed with ridiculous and made-up names. Just because you found something in a baby name book, does not make it a respectable name. I could take the one I have next to me and flip to any given page and find something completely hideous.
