Obama Care

posted 20th Nov
Will someone explain to me in simple terms what it is?

My boss is telling me that by the end of the year they are going to have to give everyone health insurance so they are going to cut everyone to under 30 hours a week.
SO and his work are saying that if you don't have insurance that the government will fine you and put you in jail.

soooo....................................?

From what my MIL said, if you do not have insurance by 2016 you will be fined every year until you get insurance. I have heard a lot of people say their jobs are cutting down to under 40 hours a week. I have not heard anything about being put in jail though. Honestly, I think it's ridiculous to be forced to get insurance by the government. I can see a job like my husband's where it's mandatory because of his job description. But for those who can't afford it, I say let them decide how to go to the doctor.

So basically employers will be required to give insurance to everyone which will put many small businesses out of business completely. More importantly if you decided to carry private insurance and not the Obama care insurance you will be fined 1% of your income and your company will also be taxed highly.

Also....the "fines" are set up to how much income you make. If you are lower income, the less you pay. But the fine increases every year.

I could explain it all...........But it wouldn't be in simple terms, haha. There's a lot that I still have to research on the topic.

You will be fined if you don't have health insurance.

I believe your employer will be fined if they don't offer health insurance to their full time employees, which Obama care is defining as 30 hours, which is why people will start getting cut down to below 30 hours - so their employer doesn't have to provide them health insurance anymore.

The reason they are making people pay who don't get health insurance is because insurance companies are no longer allowed to deny people for pre-existing conditions. This way, people aren't just waiting until they get sick to get insurance, thereby royally screwing the insurance companies. They are also increasing the income limit for Medicaid so more people qualify that can't afford insurance.

This is just going to make things worse.

Our premiums are around $1,100 per month. The fine for not getting insurance is 1% of your income. If my husband and I made $110,000 per year, our fine for the year would be $1,100 (or 1 month of premiums).

People are just going to drop insurance, pay the fine, and hop back on insurance when they find out they have cancer and need expensive treatments.

So. If you work over 30 hours a week your place of work has to provide insurance and you have to pay for it or no?
And if you work under 30 hours a week then they don't have to provide this insurance and you have to pay for insurance yourself?
Sorry I'm confused.
And what if you already have insurance?

Do you know what the income limit will be for medicare?

If you work over 30 hours, they have to offer you insurance and pay for part of it.

You do have to pay for your part of the insurance or you get fined.

You MAY be able to keep your insurance if it is "government approved". I cannot because mine only covers emergencies and it's not "government approved". They have not yet told us what these requirements are.

Medicare is being cut, so I believe that the requirements are being raised.

right...lame... Our insurance at work is smurfing bullsmurf, I'd pay less out of pocket to go to a damn doctor than I would paying for their smurffy ass health insurance; that's why I like to go to our local express care. If you get a basic OTC antibiotic, a store near us gives it to you for free, as long as you have a doctor's prescription. It's awesome.
