STD ??

posted 20th Nov
I married a man knowing he has herpes (HSV2) and knew the risks I was taking upon having sex with him, whether it be unprotected or not. Now that I have filed for a divorce, I want to get tested for every possible STD just for a precaution and an ease of mind for me. I was planning on staying married to this man the rest of my life, and now that the plan has gone out the window, I carry a lot of anger towards him and fear in me having herpes. The only thing is I have read that most people do not know if they have herpes unless they have an outbreak but can still carry the virus.

I just want the peace of mind knowing whether I am carrying the virus or not. I do not want to put another man at risk for catching something my ex-husband gave to me. I know blood tests are an option, but have yet to make a doctor appointment yet. Also, he did take medicine twice a day to prevent an outbreak.

Does any one have any advice or "experience" in this area? I know it's highly personal, but I have no one else to ask advice from until I can get into my doctor.

I really did love him haha until smurf hit that fan in the marriage. And I respected him so much for telling me!

Thank you for responding. Do you know anything about the blood tests?

I may be wrong because I'm not an expert in this subject but I believe in order to catch it you need to have contact with open lesions. Definitely get tested though. Best of luck!

I've read that too, but I also have a friend who caught it from a man who didn't have an outbreak at the time. So who knows, everybody is different.

It's all just so nerve wrecking.

I did a little bit of googling and found this on the cdc website.

Transmission from an infected male to his female partner is more likely than from an infected female to her male partner. Because of this, genital HSV-2 infection is more common in women (approximately one out of five women aged 14 to 49 years) than in men (about one out of nine men aged 14 to 49 years).
People get herpes by having sex with someone who has the disease. “Having sex” means anal, vaginal, or oral sex. HSV-1 and HSV-2 can be found in and released from the sores that the viruses cause. The viruses can also be released from skin that does not appear to have a sore. Generally, a person can only get HSV-2 infection during sexual contact with someone who has a genital HSV-2 infection. Transmission can occur from an infected partner who does not have a visible sore and may not know that he or she is infected.
HSV-1 can cause sores in the genital area and infections of the mouth and lips, so-called “fever blisters.” HSV-1 infection of the genitals is caused by mouth to genital or genital to genital contact with a person who has HSV-1 infection.

Here is the link. It also has a more detailed description of genital herpes on another tab.
