Breastfeeding problem...

posted 20th Nov
My baby is 3 days old. I was told to nurse her whenever she wants....but atleast every 3 hours....well sometimes she'll sleep for 5 or 6 hours....I wake her up to nurse...she'll get up, latch on, and then fall right back asleep. Anyone else ever have this problem or know what I can do? Im not making very much milk and I would like to nurse more frequently to increase my supply but I cant get my baby to stay awake! Then she cluster feeds all night long because she barely ate that day. I dont know what to do.

It's very normal.. I used to have to blow on dd to keep her awake. You can try undressing them too

At 3 days, let her cluster feed, but try getting her up a little earlier in the morning. She doesn't know day from night yet, so she is just trying to eat when she's hungry.

strip her naked... when they are cold they will stay awake longer, tickle her feet etc... just put her to the breast as frequent as possible to build your milk supply...

Sounds perfectly normal. What makes you think you arent making a lot of milk?

That's pretty normal. Try blowing in her face, tickling her chin, undressing her down to her diaper, tickling her feet or wipe the bottom of her feet with a cold wash cloth. Why don't you think you're making enough milk?

My boobs havent changed at all...i dont think Ive gotten my milk in yet. I get absolutely nothing when I pump or try to hand express. Idk....she has jaundice and her doctor said to nurse her atleast every 3 hours. Shes on my boobs every waking moment but i dont feel like its frequent enough to bring my milk in and build a good supply.

It can take up to 7 days for your milk to come in. Not everyones boobs change either. Because of jaundice try what everyone else said about stimulating her to eat as letting her get that extra stretch isnt the best until its cleared up. Just trust your body to do what it was meant to do. If she is still peeing and pooping and growing your supply is just fine. What you pump has no indication of your supply.
