If the seller really shipped the item and has the reciept then no, the seller should not be out money for something the post office lost. Once it leaves the sellers hand's it is no longer their problem. The seller is out money for paying for shipping (usually the buyer does) and the buyer is out money for a lost parcel.. no one wins here.. I would just call it even, take it has a lesson and make sure to put insurance on all parcels from now on.
