No sleep

Well not really. For the past week, my son has gone to bed at his normal time at 8 p.m. At first he was waking up 2-4 hours later wanting to be with his daddy and I. Last night and tonight, he's woke not even an hour later wanting to be with us. So we've been letting him sleep in his pack and play in our room because if we even try to lay him in his crib he cries. I'd let him just cry it out but he starts coughing from crying too hard.
Has anyone else went through this? Is is just a phase?
He's been in his own room since he was 4 months old and he's about to be 10 months on the 30th.
