high rent...how do you do it? an

atm DH is the only one working and I won't start working until after I have this baby(probably won't until she's a few months old) and we NEED to move by March..we have it all planned out but I'm so afraid that it won't work out..

we live in Hawaii..it may seem all tropical and amazing here but truth is I do not know a single soul who can afford to live on their own..it's either you rent a room with someone or you are living with family because minimum wage down here will only pay for half of the rent for just a studio..and thats not including utilities(which I may add are smurfing ridiculously expensive), food, gas, etc....so right now our situation is we live with my mom but we pay rent and bills..we want to start saving the amount that rent would cost us(cheapest $1250 for a 2 bedroom) a month but with all the bills we pay and then the rent we pay her(and some of the bills are hers so I can't just stop paying them seeing as how I offered to pay them) we can't save that amount up...so I'm sooooo scared we won't be able to make it because we have never saved that much in one month...

if you live in an apartment that is roughly the same amount as I'm looking to rent how do you cut corners? I already make my own laundry detergent and I usually buy things in bulk if it's cheap enough and I cook most of our meals(usually only go out for breakfast with our son)..I also work with my mom sometimes just so DH can have gas money so we don't have to touch the money he makes(all that goes to bills and rent and food..since I barely make anything that could be useful to bills)...what do you do??

How much does your SO make in a month?

My 2 bedroom apartment is $1250. It's a nice apartment but damn. Anyway, we cut out cable, we use the subway instead of our car, we buy pretty much everything generic, and I handwash most of our clothes.
I also cook everything from scratch like you. We make huge pots of soup and eat it for lunch for like a week. I also buy everything in bulk.

Where I'm in Texas and am paying 1000 a month for a 3 bedroom 2 bath. Previously 650 for a 2 bedroom 1 bath

Op dh is a truck driver so he makes good money

$600 for all bills paid? where do you live?
i've never seen a "nice ass houses" for $900/month ...maybe if you have amazing credit and/or it was a forclosure...

I want to move to Texas but we can't afford to save money here in California!

OP: Look for low-income housing if that is an option. That is what DH and I did since I can't find a job. Normal rent for 2 bedroom where I live in California is $1200+ and we are paying $846 for what they consider is low income. We still barely make it and even with DH getting his raise effective this paycheck we still are barely making ends meet with two kids under two and a car payment. We also are on a low income program for utilities (gas and electric) which makes them less than $40 in a good month but average is $60 for both. We want to save for a house but unless I get a night job (heck if I could find any job!) we won't be able to save anything for a down payment.

My SO and I both work and rent. We are saving for a house since its cheaper to own.. Rent is pricey. I've heard Hawaii is super expensive! Move? Lol jp

That's insane... :/ we live in a 2 bedroom, and pay $440/mo for rent...probably about 600 once bills are said and done.

I couldn't imagine paying that much..lol

see thats what's smurffy here..these apartments are about 650-750 square feet and everything is white from the countertops to the carpet..and these are the cheapest places we can find in the area we want to rent in(if we move away from where we want to rent I won't be able to have my mom babysit my kids which will save us even MORE money when I start work)

we only have one car and have no intention on getting cable until we're settled and know how much we can and can't spend after rent and bills are paid...it's just smurffy because the electric bill will automatically be $100 a month because thats how much the only electric company charges as a fee to use them and then they charge you for what you use on top of that....it's crappy!!! but the plus side is that most places include water!!

I totally agree! Move to TX! LOL! But girl truth is you would have to work after having baby. You can't move out on your own if you don't get job. Simple as that. HI is expensive as smurf. Or just suck it up and live with your mom for a bit longer. Much love!

And my uncle lives in a nice ass house. 3 br, 2 bath brick house fenced in yard in a great neighborhood. He pays $900 a month.
