Ice Skating

posted 20th Nov
How old was your little one when they first went Ice Skating?

How fast did they pick it up?

I wanna take Cora to the local rink soon (she is 4) but they don't allow any kind of assistive devices, like chairs, on the ice.

I know she is going to fall a ton of times.

Most rinks have walker type things for little ones to help guide them along.

I've never seen them at this rink but I haven't been there in a few years.

My figure skating coach (a long time ago) had her kids on the ice as soon as they were walking. First lesson in skating is always fall backwards on our butt. Not forward. If you loose balance lean back.it wonthurt her to fall.   and she will pick it up fastand probably surprise you. Having something like a chair to hold onto is more of a risk then Justin your butt.   have fun.

I'm no help because I've never taken my little ones, but I learned at around 4-5. It was pretty easy to pick up, my momma just held my hand. If they don't have the walker things just skate with her next to the wall for a bit so she has leverage on both sides. =)

Ryan started playing hockey at 4yo. Before that he had never set foot in a rink [roller or ice] he picked it up really quickly!

It's easy! I find it to be easier than roller blading.

I would take her during the week. Weekends and times when school is out will be WAY too crowded.

I hate when school is out. And I'm going to hate sending her to school because then we can't just go do whatever we want

My oldest was in hockey at 3 years old, she started skating at about 18 months using this bob skates. My middle used her bob skates at about 23 months old and been using real skates since just befor 3 years old.

I am suprised they are not allowed to us anything here all the rinks supply these things for the kids to use, and also moms or dads who skate can bring their babies on the ice in their strollers. lol

Catherine started skating when she was 2. tommy was just a little newb so i'd wear him in my bjorn at the rink and my BIL would hold her and skate around with her. next year at 3 she started really picking it up and used the milk crates. now at 4, almost 5, she's a friggin whiz. skates better than me.

get her hockey skates they're much easier than figure skates. HUGE tip there.
