Twin pregnancy: Scheduled c-section or went into labor own?

posted 20th Nov
Hi, I'm new to this but i just want other moms opinions that have had twins!! I am pregnant with 2 & 3. Doctors are wanting to schedule a c- section for 39 weeks unless I go into labor early... Not sure if i want to have a C-section unless it is medically necessary. I would rather have them come naturally when they're ready and not have to be cut. But they also say one can be breech. So i'll have to have a C-section anyways.. Wondering how it is to deliver 2 babies and did baby B turn for anyone where they had to have C section anyways? Also if you had a scheduled c- section how'd it go? And how was recovery afterwards?

While you may find a hospital and a doctor willing to do a twin birth, it may be hard...the stats are against you. Go with your mom gut...you can do this, girl. Your body was made to give birth! I highly recommend that you research out of hospital birth and contact The Farm Midwives: http://www.midwiferyworkshops.org/meet_the_midwives.html They are amazing and have successfully assisted in vaginal births of twins and breeches.

You mentioned breech...Here is a great birth story of a mom who birthed breech at The Farm:

I love this video--look at those healthy, chunky twins nursing!

. You can find a lot of other twin homebirth stories on You Tube. It can be done!

I totally understand. It was hard for me to wrap my head around the concept that I would be safer out of hospital than in one....but, I am so thankful for my out-of-hospital birth and my amazing midwife who took such great care of my baby and me.

The very reason that something could go wrong is why it is important to have a trained midwife there to help you who is experienced in twin birth. Here is a link to a study on the safety and track record of The Farm Midwives: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1694364/
Certified Professional Midwives at The Farm have the ability to carry oxygen, IV, pitocin, etc. and are certified in neonatal resuscitation. They are prepared to address any rare complications with life saving first response and appropriate transfer to obstetric back up.

It's a scary choice, but you do have a say in the matter. It is possible to deliver breech babies naturally this horrible thing now is that docs are not trained how to do so in medical school anymore. The danger comes when they are large babies. My sister was born breech :-)

I am not sure how many midwives take pregnancies with multiples. I have heard pregnancies wifh multiples are considered high risk. But perhaps CNMs are allowed to?
