nap time
posted 20th Nov
It's so hard to get DS to take a nap anywhere but on me. At night its no problem he'll lay right down. But during the day its just not happening. As soon as I lay him down he loses it. He's only 9 weeks so I'm not gonna let him cry to sleep. As soon as I pick him up he'll pass out but as soon as I lay him down he wakes up. Or I'll lay him down and he'll sleep for about 15 minutes where if he naps on me he'll sleep for like 2 hours. I feel like I've spoiled him (I know you can't really spoil a baby, I just can't think of a better word right now). How did you get your LO to nap not on you?

Watching. DS is 5 months and still won't sleep without skin to skin contact.

I put a mattress on the floor and I nurse him to sleep then sneak out.

i was like that with my son....he grew out of it...we cosleep so he will take one of his naps with me in the morning and one with his dad in the afternoon but the rest of his naps he will be in his swing, rocker, or crib

My son just eventually grew out of it or we would nap together.

I have a 6 week old and she's just started being able to sleep on her own. For while, she wouldn't sleep if I put her down. I began waiting until she closed her eyes and started twitching (so not fully sleep, but dozing off) and then swaddling her and putting her in her bassinet. The first few times, she would wake up and watch me leave and 30 seconds later, she'd begin fussing... So I'd go in and repeat the whole process.
However, I discovered that she needs to fuss (not cry...if she escalates to crying, I go in immediately). A lot of babies self-soothe by fussing. So I began holding her until she was dozing off, swaddling her, and then letting her fuss a bit. She fell asleep within 10 minutes (not fussing the whole time, but intermittently). Now she does awesome! Last night, she was awake but drowsy when I put her down (first time I tried this) and after about 10-15 minutes of fussing and cooing to herself, she fell asleep...And stayed asleep for 7 and a half hours!!
So basically, let him fuss (not cry), and if he falls asleep and then wakes up fussing, let him be. Give it a few minutes to see if it stops or escalates.

I just wear her to get stuff done. She sleeps like a rock in her moby, she even drools.
She starting to get better about napping on her own, she's 12 weeks.

Oh if he's fussy, I let him be and sometimes he falls asleep on his own but a lot of times it escalates to full fledged crying.
It is getting better though so maybe I just got to give it time.
