Turkey

I bought my Turkey yesterday, frozen, and put it into the fridge. Today, it doesn't seem to have thawed at all, not even a little bit. Should I take it out of the fridge?

Its supposed to take 1 day to thaw 5lbs so it depsnds on the size of ur turkey and when u plan to cook it.

13 lbs and I plan on cooking it Thursday morning.

fill up your sink half way with water and put the turkey in there for the day

Eh, I wouldn't. I always put my turkey/ham (roughly 10lbs each) in the fridge 3 days before Thanksgiving, and it's always thawed by Thanksgiving morning.

Id leave it in the fridge and check on it around dinner time tomorrow. If it still seems frozen then fill the sink with cold water and thaw it that way.

Ours is sitting on the counter. Once it gets a little mushier then I will toss it in the fridge. It is how I thaw everything and I know it would take days possibly a week for a 20 lb turkey to thaw in my fridge when it freezes fruit.

it will take 3-4 das to thaw a turkey. I wouldnt take it out of the fridge and thaw it unless tomorrow night it it still frozen.
Its thawing from the inside out. if you put it on your counter it will thaw from the outside in and that will cause bacteria to grow.
it will take 6-8 hours to thaw it in cold water. which i wouldnt do untill tomorrow night if its still frozen

thats the worse thing you could do for poultry. you should never let it thaw on your counter. the outside gets warm before the inside

"Quick" Thawing:
Place turkey in its original wrapping in sink and cover with COLD water. Change the water every 1/2 hour to maintain the temperature. Allow 1/2 hour per pound to defrost the turkey. Most turkeys will take from 5 to 10 hours to thaw.

Never thaw the bird at room temperature!

Turkey Thawing Time in Cold Water: Approximately 30 minutes per pound.
Change water every 1/2 hour.
Whole Turkey Weight Thawing Time
8 to 12 lbs 4 to 6 hours
12 to 16 lbs 6 to 8 hours
16 to 20 lbs 8 to 10 hours
20 to 24 lbs 10 to 12 hours

Not the best idea to do with meat. If youre going to do that you should have it under cold water.

never knew that. DH worked in restaurants all his life and told me to do that. I do it all the time and it has never been a problem. I guess I will run some water.
