8 month 'wellness check'

posted 20th Nov
So we got a new pedi for DD, who I absolutely LOVE!! Everyone is so nice, and the dr actually listens to my concerns and tries something new if I say the first option isn't working (complete opposite of the old pedi) When we switched to the new pedi DD was 7 months old and needed her second dose of the flu shot but needed a small check up first so we went in for her constipation issues. Her old pedi is refusing to send over DD's medical records (they won't even give them to me..i've tried) so her new pedi doesn't have her weight history so he saw her at 7 months and decided he wanted to do her 9 month wellness check at 8 months to check her weight. She is 15 lbs 15 oz, and 25 1/2 in tall. She is ahead in all the milestones so she's perfect   Her dr thought her weight might be because she wasn't getting enough to eat but when I told her how much she eats he realized that def isn't the issue. She has 7 oz of formula every 4 hours and then baby food twice a day and table food for dinner with us. She started gaining more weight when we introduced the table food, so her dr is having us cut out the baby food and give her 3 meals of table food a day. He said she will probably want less formula but to offer it in between meals if she is hungry and then mentioned this 'yo-baby' line that has yogurt to help her constipation and he was saying they have milk that we can start to introduce as well. I've never heard of this yo-baby line..has anyone used it? Does your baby like it? Is it expensive?? I'm trying to google where I can buy it but google is not my friend this morning lol

They sell it @ any grocery store/wal-mart here.. its a little more $$ than regular yogurt but not outrageously priced.

I would try other methods to help with constipation before giving her tons of yogurt.

"Use natural laxatives. When using a laxative, try the most natural first. Begin with diluted prune juice (with pulp), a tablespoon or two for the six- month-old and as much as eight ounces for the toddler. Try strained prunes or make a prune puree (stew your own or buy commercial), either straight or disguised (mixed with a favorite food), or spread it on a high-fiber cracker. Apricots and the four P's – prunes, pears, plums, and peaches – usually exert a laxative effect."

Yo-baby is a great yogurt. It's actually got all the probiotics that yogurt should have (most yogurt for kids is just a "dairy snack", meaning it doesn't have the cultures in it that are going to help your LO's constipation. It's more expensive because it's organic, but it's one of those things that (I think) the benefits outweigh the higher cost. It's all we eat at the house (both my 4 year old and my 11 month old love it).

Congrats on a great check up.

Oh I don't usually go to walmart but it looks like I shall start   Thank you! He said that's the one we should use because it's organic and has the whole milk. I'm on their website now reading about it (i'm super anal about reading into everything first lol)

We have tried literally everything there is to try with constipation lol It will work for a short time and then she goes right back to rock hard lumps and what we did last time won't work again. She's currently on Miralax (?) which is working great but it's only a short term solution so we are trying to find a long term one, because she has been constipated on and off (mostly on) since she was 2 months old.
