I have an english mastiff have had her for 6 years. she is great with my 3 yr old and 2 yr old. the only issue Ive ever had is when they were learning to walk she would knock them down.. (not on purpose) they love her. she lets them climb on her and lay on her and she is protective over them.

I am a firm believer in it is how the dog is raised. People have the misconception that all golden retrievers and labs are great family dogs yet as a dog groomer the only dog I have been bitten severely by was a golden retriever!!! I believe any dog has the potential to be a great family dog just maybe get one that is a little bit sturdier than a chihuahua if your LO is young.

I grew up with german shepards and boxers, never had problems with them.... my dog is a border collie/ austrailian Shepard mix, and he is wonderful! Mu son has bit, pulled his hair, his tai, and sits on him, and he has never once even nipped at my son! But they have also grown ip together! I also was told labs are great with kids!!!

Newfoundlands are great dogs.

I'm not a fan of small dogs. I like golden retrievers, labs, and Bernese Mountain Dogs. They're just pure love and they love to be loved on. IF you have $2,000 to throw around on a dog and you want a small dog, Cavalier King Charles is an amazing breed and they're very sweet, calm tempered dogs.

Yeah theres always one that will make a liar out of you. I grew up in a house full of them and aside from the 16 year old male, we always had great luck.

The downside is they do require a lot of upkeep in the grooming department.

I can't wait to get my boxer! (or a great dane, haven't decided). That's my SO's consolation to me for not having more babies after this.

My boxers were my best friends!!! And are great dogs! My dad has two currently!!

Thanks guys! Now I'm going to have such a hard time deciding... but I'm leaning towards a lab. DH has mentioned several times since we've been together how much he loves them.

Their a good choice, I have never come across a lab with a bad personality, honestly.
