Dental issues 28 weeks pregnant.
posted 19th Nov
Hey, I'm 28 weeks pregnant and due to a head cold, my back molar is thriving like crazy. I have a pretty decent sized hole in my back molar and I've seen dentists before but they just keep filling it. I want to get it pulled but right now I'm waiting for my medicaid to finally clear through. I keep hearing people tell me it could be fatal to the baby, and it's probably been a year since my last filling in that tooth. I'm terrified and just need to know people who had dental issues and their babies come out okay.

I'm not sure about fatal but if its infected you and the baby can be at risk.

Infection is not good while pregnant that's for sure I don't know about it being fatal my sister had a root canal while she was pregnant they just can't complete it to bad you couldn't get get a prescription for an antibiotic if you needed one

im 33 weeks pregnant an over the past month ive went in every week to have fillings done. I had 9. An i have to have both back molars pulled. My dentist wants to wait until after baby is born to pull the two but he said if they are hurting me he will pull them. My doctor cleared me for dental work. An all they will use is a few shots in the gums to numb you just like with fillings. Youd be okay. GL

an if you have an infection that can give you an antibotic...amoxicillin. Its cleared for pregnancy.

How would I know if it's infected? It throbs for a day our two, then stops for weeks, and so on. I guess what I'm wondering is, until my insurance us cleared and I can go to the dentist, will my baby be okay? I'm s nervous wreck, mainly because my sinuses are thriving which is making tooth hurt worse.

if you live in florida they won't pull it unless they are pulling all teeth... trust me been there; they might not even fill it...good luck

That's a scary thought. To the post above mine I'm 27 weeks just got my dental cleared with medicaid. And I have cavities but only two that cause me problems and only when sugars get in. Really they wont do anything? I'll have to look real hard into that. And I don't think it's fatal from what I've heard bad teeth can cause premature labor (Don't know how but I guess it can) and low birth weight. Again haven't looked into how but it's what my OB said. I'm terrified of dental work is it bad btw...

wow really? Seems a lil crazy to me. But every doctor and dentist is different. You would know if its infected. Gums would be swollen..there could be some pus. What it sounds like is it needs to be pulled or a root canal(which isnt covered by medicaid) because of the throbbing your having. Thats your nerves in your tooth...an i just now got my dental work done an ds is fine. You shouldnt worry.

Teeth being pulled or route canals aren't covered or both? I wish I could just have the two that bother me pulled out, and such. The rest can just be filled. Sorry not to take away from OP. Just curious.

my dentist told me that root canals are not covered by medicaid. He wanted 1200 upfront before hand. It will cover the tooth to be pulled. As long as your dentist does a lil work at a time you should be fine.

I don't know if it's a phobia or what, but literally the thought of the dentist especially pregnant makes me want to cry. And I'd need a few teeth pulled anyway I've got over crowding. A little work at a time doesn't sound bad I guess. I can handle pain, and I'll obviously have to deal with child birth. But something about nerve pain... I've always heard things like "I'd rather give child birth again then get another route canal."

i just had a crown lengthening done (they numbed me and cut away some of my gum and sawed down part of my jaw bone so they can put a crown on) and before i had it done the specialist that did the surgery called in a RX for antibiotics and a pain med...we did have to clear it through my OB before i took any meds tho and ive had a check up since that and had an ultrasound and our baby girl is doing just fine.
as long as u clear it with ur OB and get meds to prevent any infections u should be just fine
hope this helps GL

i had two fillings on one side for the first visit an two fillings on the other side on the second visit an 5 fillings in the front on the third visit. Eh you really dont feel any pain...i would say the worse part is getting numbed with the needles but it was over quick...an it was annoying that the numbness took hours to wear off. I hated it too but i feel better now.
