Vitamin D for infants

posted 19th Nov
Is it true that breast fed babies need to be given extra vitamin D? Me and a friend were talking about that today....

Yes. I think they can get it through your breast milk. I take a ton while I am nursing..

well of course but they say breast fed babies need it because there is very little vitamin d in breast milk. I was looking up D Drops... heard those where good for infants

! Most North Americans are Vit D deficient. Up your intake, mama, and it'll give you both a boost!

You can give them the drops or just do a few minutes of sunlight a couple of times a day.

I bought some fruit flavored liquid stuff at Wal-Mart. But I wasn't very good about giving it to my LO.

If you want to take a supplement for yourself, make sure and buy D3 (instead of just D). Your body absorbs D3 better.

My DS pediatrician prescribed vitamin D drops because he is EBF and apparently vitamin D is the only vitamin that does not transfer through the milk.
