Walking tips?

posted 19th Nov
My kiddo is 18 months old, and as some or most of you know, she's not walking. She's cruising furniture like a boss though and she does it a lot, she'll pull herself up like it's nothing. I'm trying to encourage her to walk, but it seems harder than I thought. Is there any toy or exercise or whatever that's really good to help her? I tried helping her by holding her hands, but she doesn't like that and sometimes just pulls her feet up or screams [and also, she's getting her molars in and is just getting over croup...VERY CRANKY!!!]...I'm trying to make it fun, but she makes it hard, ha!

Just trying to get her walking before she's 2. Even though I'll regret it when she does start walking, lol. TIA!

I have these:

I also have a generic walker, but she's way too big for that [she's about 35 inches now and 24.8 pounds] and it never helped anyway. The dog toy, the red handle goes up so they can walk, but she won't do it. I need something that's light enough to push, but heavy enough so she doesn't topple over.

I've seen the wooden ones, they look nice but are pricy. I would hate to invest in something she won't use!

Does anyone know of any therapy-related exercises to help strengthen her legs? I'm at a loss! lol.

What does her doctor say? Some kids are just late walkers and some might need some therapy but the doctor would be best to evaluate her.

They want her to go to therapy again, but she's been to therapy before and all she did was scream and cry [seriously] and she wouldn't do any therapy exercises while she was there, so it was kind of a waste of money to go there and let her cry for a half hour. They discharged her the first time because they said she wasn't making any progress and they were done trying.

I was, trust me. They also put the blame on me for her not hitting every milestone correctly. They also held her down multiple times to make her do the exercises while she screamed to practically hyperventilation, which I found to be insane and refused to let me comfort her. She does more things at home then she ever did there, but they didn't believe me, so they discharged her at 10 months old and gave up...but yet, they want me to come back just to put down my mothering again. I taught her how to pull up and stand, though she doesn't know how to stand up quite well without holding onto anything (she's done it before...but not often.) I just want to prove I can do it, because I know I can and i've done multiple exercises to help her in the past (mainly for torticollis + tummy time.) I just don't know what to do to encourage and help her.

I was a hot mess about it, they told me she wasn't hitting milestones because I didn't "force her to do anything." Pretty sure forcing kids to do things wont make them hit any milestone. I'm a first time mom, but i'm not a moron. I hated hearing her cry "mamaaaaaa!!" it was horrible. I don't want to go back there unless I 1000000% need to.

i wouldnt go back there, just keep working with her on it. shell walk in her own time. screw the quack doctors that tried to force her to do something.

I was a late walker myself, I didn't walk until almost 2! Her dad was the same, he was actually pigeon-toed, but she isn't pigeon-toed at all. She did something like that once, except she had used a foot stool (the ones that were apart of a couch)...I might get her a play table just to see what she does with it. I'm just tired of people going "uh...why isn't she walking?" and all that smurf. Makes me feel like I failed as a mom and makes me upset.
