re: I'm so annoyed with Dr's and medical charts

posted 19th Nov
My kid's pedi is always on me about my daughters weight too. It annoys the hell out of me because I know she's fine. She's in the bottom 10%, but that's just because of her genes. Your kids look fine and healthy to me! I can't believe the doc said your son was borderline obese... that's insane, he looks perfect to me.

I didn't say you should lol. I think if you were to try and have her put on weight it should be with healthy alternatives. But, as you said, you were the same way so there is no huge worry since its probably genetics.

They look like happy and healthy kids, which is all that matters IMO anyways. I took my 3 and 4 year old for their yearly check up and DS was 46 inches tall and like 58 lbs and DD was 42 inches and 48lbs. They said my kids were overweight and that they needed to be put on a diet, couldn't have any sweets, had to be limited on sugar etc. I told him they were just fine, that they were always above what the charts said they needed to be at, i'm not worried about their weight because i know what they eat.

They gave me serotonin syndrome twice. My kidneys are ruined for life because of them after this last stint. I'm out of work for about a month due to it.

Oh they told me they might label her as "failure to thrive" if she doesn't get taller but all the women on my husbands side are small, like barely 5ft. She obviously takes after them but because I'm 5'7 they think she should be taller.

I'd only be concerned if they've fallen off their personal growth charts.

My DS turned 7 in Aug and is 4'4" and 62 lbs and his drs aren't concerned. DD turned 4 in Oct and is 40" and 41lb as of a week ago. Both are on their own growth curves which is all I care about

My son is hefty don't get me wrong. most people are surprised when they pick him up because he is heavier than he looks but hes build stocky and thick like his father. He doesn't have much fat on him. You can see his ribs!!

I know, I didn't mean to get snippy but they make me feel as though I'm doing wrong and it gets on my nerves.

I'd try a new doctor.

Last year they wanted to put my son through all these tests checking his insulin and all this crap because he was SO obese. I didn't do any of it though, I felt it unnecessary.

Yeah they smurfed me good too. Didnt test my urine during my last pregnancy because it's an "unnecessary" test unless symptoms are present. Had Pre-e, destroyed my liver and now I have type 2 diabetes.

but yet standard is so expensive. Don't let them treat your babies that way. They're fine.

I wish that were an option but we can't switch to standard now so I am stuck with military Dr's and she's the only developmental pedi here. She also sees my son and daughter for their special needs. My son is globally delayed and my eldest has ADHD.
