How does my crochet look?

I basically taught myself. And I have no idea if I'm finishing and starting my rows right lol.

Does anyone know of any easy to follow tutorials to make basic baby hats, or little baby shoes? I'm a beginner but getting a bit bored of making squares lol
If ive got the basic stitch sussed, what should I try next? I googled but I'm a bit overwhelmed by it all!
I have a 6mm hook if that matters?

Have you checked out ravelry.com? I think that's what it is. And a friend of mine taught herself how to make hats and scarves for her kids watching youtube vids

Oh really? Yay! I thought it looked too chunky/knotty lol. Is that because of the size hook I'm using?
I did google, and looked at YouTube but I honestly didn't know where to start lol. And they were talking about hook sizes, and yarn types.. I don't know! Got a bit confusing for me
