IEP made funny

I can't post a working link from my device, but it's awesome if someone can post it for me. It's called 'Mostly True Stuff: Ways to make you next IEP awesome'. I laughed so hard I cried.

not gonna read the whole thing. seemed offensive to me. I know it was intended as a joke, but I think it was in poor taste. when I go to my kid's IEP meeting, I would never joke or try to one-up the professionals trying to help my child. but that's just me...

That's why it's called a joke. I never would either. IEP's are stressful and long enough. But this still made laugh.

I agree.

Idk, I normally get most jokes seeing as how I have an off sense of humor, but I can't find the humor in any of these. I just couldn't imagine making a joke out of my son's IEP meeting.

I understand, but i read 3 of the things, and found no humor in them

I had an IEP from entering pre school in 1993 until graduating high school in 2009. and continue to need the college version of an IEP.
I really didn't see most of those as funny. It's not that I find them offensive, it's just that I see an IEP meeting as the place you are supposed to get the support and services you need. It's where when you are in grade school, your parents are supposed to advocate for your needs. So I just don't see what's so funny about trolling your child's IEP team.
A few further down the list did make me chuckle a little though I'll admit lol.

It is very serious. And I have a serious distaste for my sons slp who is very dril, drill, drill oh you don't get your reward at the end etc. so this one made me giggle like give her a taste of her own medicine. He's supposed to be in play therapy until school age (3 now)
Hand out your own goals at the beginning of the meeting. "The Speech and Language Pathologist will bark when someone says 'IEP' 2 out of 3 times with minimal prompting" Measure goals at the end of the meeting.

Say "listening ears" whenever they're not listening to what you're saying.
Because this is exactly how I get my kids to listen, and as his mother and advocate it seems like they are hearing what I have to say but not actually listening to his needs medical and school wise.

Show up with that black paint under your eyes that athletes use. So they know you're serious. We are our kids warriors. I thought it was cute.

At the end, laugh your ass off and then say "Okay you guys, let's do the real one"
I often feel like this would be a grand idea. Rough draft on spot, final draft instead of being told what we are doing, regardless if it's reasonable or not.

Overall a great rest of them were funny to me, because I spend a lot of time worried about how it is going to go. Sit there reading all the things they have to say About my child and how far they have not come since the last eval. What we need to do next. Reading goals that seem so far our of reach. And being talked at by a large group of people talking at me, not to me. And IMO was a little bit of light thinking about imaginary things that could happen to make the day a little lighter.
I'm not trying to be insensitive at all...

No worries I understand you weren't trying to be insensitive and like I said I wasn't offended.
I guess I always saw IEP meetings as something that could make or break the quality of my school year as a disabled student.
but I like the bringing your own goals lol.
Always remember momma no matter what they say or how they say it to you, you always have the final say. Many IEP teams will try and lead you to believe other wise, but in IEP meetings what the parents say goes.
Be polite but forceful and even if they don't like you or agree with you you will get the things you feel are best for your child.
Let me tell you by the time he graduates high school, you will have enough copies of that "Parents rights" paper to wallpaper your house lol.

I really hate that anyone makes anything funny out of anything serious ever. There should never be anything funny ever.

On the other hand, if I had a giant stick up my ass I probably wouldn't have found this funny, either. So... I see your point.
